Merged Greenland is part of NATO via Denmark

To denote when two or more threads have been merged
This was in a violation of a treaty where Ukraine handed over to Russia 1,000 nukes in exchange for an agreement that guaranteed territorial independence.
There was no such treaty and even there was it would have contained Ukrainian neutrality, which was violated first, making "treaty" null an void. Ukrainian state was based on neutrality and good relation with Russia, US violated both. This is not me, this is former right hand of Elesnky saying.

Trump is an useful imbecile for international (US) oligarchs. They are using him to do outrageous stuff.
Biden was flat out corrupt asshole which was used for the same albeit less outrageous goals.

The American President "needs" to rescue Greenland because Russia is poised to conquer that Island. "There are Russian destroyers, there are Chinese destroyers and, bigger, there are Russian submarines all over the place," President Trump said recently.

Why then is Russia so effusive in its praise of Trump's plan?

Rossiyskaya Gazeta translated said:
Standing in the way of the US president's historic breakthrough is the stubbornness of Copenhagen and the mock solidarity of intransigent European countries, including so-called friends of America, Britain and France. Europe does not need the American greatness that Trump is promoting. Brussels is counting on 'drowning' the US president in the midterm congressional elections, on preventing him from concluding the greatest deal of his life.

If Trump annexes Greenland by July 4 2026, when America celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, he will go down in history as a figure who asserted the greatness of the United States.

With Greenland, the US becomes the second largest country in the world after Russia, surpassing Canada in area. For Americans, that's on par with such planetary events as the abolition of slavery by Abraham Lincoln in 1862 or the territorial conquests of the Napoleonic Wars. If, thanks to Trump, Greenland becomes part of America…for sure the American people will not forget such an achievement.
...
It is dangerous for the American president to back down over Greenland. This would weaken the position of the Republican Party in the midterm elections and likely result in a Democrat majority on Capitol Hill with the ensuing consequences for Trump. Whereas a rapid annexation of Greenland before the elections can change this political trend.

Although written in Russian, the obvious audience for this Putinist propaganda is the Orange Oaf himself. Even though he is only semi-literate in English, he's doubtless ben provided with a translation. Vladimir is egging on the Oaf, cackling in glee.

Maybe this is the explanation to why Trump wants Greenland. It'll add size to USA. Something that a person as insecure and pathetic as Trump perhaps thinks is important?

What can I say? schadenfreude is well deserved.
EU took part in US oligarchate lead aggression against Russia and Ukraine (historical part of Russia)
Now US is aggressive towards EU itself.

You don't seem to know the history of your own country, Russia.

No, I am perfectly aware of all the history. You, on the other hand, is not very good at your own native language.
Yes, ukrainian regime violated that memorandum (not a treaty)
And no, they never had any nukes to return for exchange of anything.

:)
British guy asks random russians what they think about this Greenland situation. He didn't meet Putin there, unfortunately.

How can you be so blatantly wrong? It is considered to be a treaty. Ukraine did have on its territory thousands of nukes. It was Russia who violated the treaty, firstly by seizing Ukrainian territory of Crimea in 2014, and later with its invasion of Ukraine.
If you are not aware of these facts it is because the Russian leadership has withheld such knowledge from you, but you can find out via your own research. Read the link I provided and other sources that verify this.

The following translated excerpt from Rossiyskaya Gazeta is almost "too perfect." It shows that newspaper, presumably acting at Putin's command, egging on Trump, the way a master criminal might egg on a hefty thug of limited intellect.

But is it true? The 'Net is so full of fake news, might this be totally made up?

It would be nice if someone -- perhaps @barbos -- could find the newspaper opinion piece in its original Russian and prove the story real.

barbos?

Excellent article describing the likely outcome of the path Trump and MAGA have sent us down.

Americans are entering the most dangerous world they have known since World War II, one that will make the Cold War look like child’s play and the post–Cold War world like paradise. In fact, this new world will look a lot like the world prior to 1945, with multiple great powers and metastasizing competition and conflict. The U.S. will have no reliable friends or allies and will have to depend entirely on its own strength to survive and prosper. This will require more military spending, not less, because the open access to overseas resources, markets, and strategic bases that Americans have enjoyed will no longer come as a benefit of the country’s alliances. Instead, they will have to be contested and defended against other great powers.

Americans are neither materially nor psychologically ready for this future. For eight decades, they have inhabited a liberal international order shaped by America’s predominant strength. They have grown accustomed to the world operating in a certain way: Largely agreeable and militarily passive European and Asian allies cooperate with the United States on economic and security issues. Challengers to the order, such as Russia and China, are constrained by the combined wealth and might of the U.S. and its allies. Global trade is generally free and unhampered by geopolitical rivalry, oceans are safe for travel, and nuclear weapons are limited by agreements on their production and use. Americans are so accustomed to this basically peaceful, prosperous, and open world that they tend to think it is the normal state of international affairs, likely to continue indefinitely. They can’t imagine it unraveling, much less what that unraveling will mean for them.

Worth reading the whole thing.

We are effectively reliving the 20th century. We even had the pandemic almost at the same time. I remember the Neocons just being daft at understanding how Iraq would turn out. The people running the show with Trump make the Neocons look like foreign policy geniuses. These people think they are playing chess and they have an awesome strategy of right via might. But they forget that the other person can play too... and they aren't stupid. And that strategies can be ruined in a matter of a couple moves. They think we can regain the upper hand pre WWII style. Apparently oblivious to the fact that such things led to WWII in the first place.

Trump's policies are going to make Canada worse off. That doesn't help the American economy. These policies are going to make Europe and Asia worse off. That doesn't help the American economy. It is all America first, but sometimes, putting others first can help make things better at home. It is what we learned between the 1950s and 2010s. Yes, we could seize all the means of production back, but at what cost? No one has shown the numbers indicating this will be a net gain for the US. All Trump has are fake commitments of nations to build stuff in the US.

Democracies are supposed to be immune to this shit.
Democrats should come out and say. "We are 100% against it and once We are in power Greenland will be returned to Denmark no matter what happens now under this Orange piece of shit"
Well, technically Trump would have broken NATO at that point, there would be no going back... as the idiots in America that voted for him can just vote for the next Trump.
EU should also be properly pissed off. So far they were underwhelming to say the least. But they put themselves into this position with their russophobia.
They are out of practice. Trump's behavior is so erratic, it is effectively impossible to contest. He is using the juggernaut economy / military that he inherited to push nations around. And his thinking / actions are so chaotic and nonsensical, it is very difficult to come up with a rational response.

How can you be so blatantly wrong? It is considered to be a treaty.
No, it is not a treaty. Not that is that important buy it was not ratified by anybody, not even by Ukraine.
Ukraine did have on its territory thousands of nukes
These were not their nukes, These were russian nukes. Ukro-scam wanted to get extort some money for returning them. Russia said "We are not paying".
It was Russia who violated the treaty, firstly by seizing Ukrainian territory of Crimea in 2014
Nope, It was US who seized Ukraine by conducting a coup and installing illegitimate and hostile to Russia "government" which refused to pay debt by saying "We don't have to pay previous government loans" and started to exterminate all pro-russian opposition.
Well, fine. Russia does not feel obliged to conform to any treaties either, after all, they were signed by previous government.
If you are not aware of these facts it is because the Russian leadership has withheld such knowledge from you, but you can find out via your own research. Read the link I provided and other sources that verify this.
That's fucking rich. You have not even read your fucking own "sources"
I don't give a flying fuck about any worthless treaties and memorandums. The moment they made Bandera a Hero of Ukraine all treaties became null and void, period. We should have invaded them in 2004 and fucked them beyond any belief.

Mr. Trump issued his statement as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson, a Republican, was in the U.K. to address the British parliament, where he told lawmakers the U.S. and U.K. had "always been able to work through our differences calmly as friends. We will continue to do that. I want to assure you this morning that that is still the case."
Go Donald go.

NATO was established by treaty that was ratified by congress. It's a law. If shit for brains orders an attack on Greenland he would be violating the treaty which is bigger than just a law.

Would the military really follow am order that's so clearly illegal. This would be way bigger than blowing up boats.

Technically speaking any unit if the US military that is oedered to attack Greenlad should attack itself.

Would the military really follow am order that's so clearly illegal.
Interesting that there’s no question mark after that question. Because there is no question. Congress will ignore the illegality of the order and the rank and file will obey or be gulag-bound.
