Happy Star Trek Day!

Today, September 8, is the 53rd anniversary of the airing of the first episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, "The Man Trap" (the one with the salt vampire).

On Twitter, it is being celebrated with the hashtag #StarTrekDay I'm [MENTION=51]lpetrich[/MENTION] there.

I remember being rather into TOS. I watched it on an old grayscale TV for a long time, and I even went to a Star Trek convention. I haven't been involved with Star Trek as much as I used to, however.

But I do like the concept. Humanity making peace with itself and getting together and exploring the Universe. It's a fundamentally optimistic view of humanity's future.

That was just before I was born. By the time I was big enough to watch TV, it was in syndication, which was awesome because that meant it was on every day and I watched it after school.

Watched a lot of reruns growing up in the 70's. Loved the films when they came out. Of course the 80's and 90's were the golden years of Star Trek, some that I still relive form time to time via Netflix. I do like the newer stuff coming out too, for the most part. It does have a certain optimistic view, even when it's trying to be gritty, than most sci-fi has anymore. It's good for my psyche.

I never caught the original run of TOS, but I caught it in reruns in the 1970's. I remember watching it on an old grayscale ("black and white") TV.

I caught the original runs of TNG, DS9, and VOY, and the movies, though I never caught any of the later series.

Watched reruns of TOS until I practically memorized them. Voyager was the only Trek series I never finished, and don't care to. Watched the first season of Discovery, and liked it.

For fans of TOS, Galaxy Quest is a must see movie. It is a great parody, that shows its love of the original series.

I had expected The Orville to be another Galaxy Quest, but instead it is much closer to TNG, without a huge stick up its butt. The episodes have been intelligent, with excellent social significance, and pretty damn funny at times. Highly recommend that series to TNG fans.

I was a big fan in the seventies. Had all the paperback books of the episodes and built a model Enterprise.

Every so often I catch a rerun now and it brings back good memories.
