Hasan Piker on Anti-Abortionism

Being new-ish to the USA, what is the underlying reason that there is such resistance to abortion in this country?

It seems to me that it almost always comes from religious fools. As such, it seems that if that is the reason, then they are in direct violation of the First Amendment's Establishment clause.

Of course, religion, being founded on lies, they will find ways to lie about their motivation, but it is a huge coincidence that it always seems to be religiously motivated.

Trumpism IS the ascent of religious foolery. Not that Trump is religious or anything, but he does know how to pander to religious fools.

I can't think of a serious secular basis for the "life begins at conception" arguments, but I can definitely see a secular basis to oppose abortion at later stages of pregnancy. I see little reason not to consider a near birth undborn a person equal of all of the same protections as the rest of us. The question becomes whether the mother has a right over her own body that trumps the right of the unborn to life. Does the mother have the right to homicide of her child? Some will make comparisons to a squatter (does the property owner have the right to execute squatters?). Others will point at health risks to the mother and her autonomy over her body. I can see reasonable arguments going in both directions on this regarding the ethics of it.

But ultimately, in practicality, a good question arises as to what the effect of it being illegal will be. I believe it is unlikely to go away or decline drastically just because it is made illegal, and coathanger abortions will become prevalent, which are much worse than medical abortions. So making it legal but highly regulated and making it available as a last resort seems the best way to go, even if the pro-life arguments are right.

The right way should be to writedown all use cases you can think of
And then check how each of these plays out for each legislation.

Then select the legislation that results in best overall results.

Most of the religious right wingers I've seen discussing the toddler camps on the boarder essentially think it's utter hypocrisy that 'the far left' is so worried about criminals having their kids taken away, whilst at the same time fighting for the right to 'kill unborn children'.

In fact it's sort of that sites version of Godwin's Law- ultimately all moral arguments will come back to 'well you believe in killing unborn children so your point is invalid'.

Let's not forget that the only reason they care about abortion at all is that the modem conservative Christian movement did not want to admit that what really motivated and galvanized their movement was racism:

They are hurting women just to obfuscate they racism* inherent in their movement.

* To any alt-right free speech warriors reading this: I deeply apologize for suggesting that racism is a bad thing. Please don't be triggered. I know how fragile your feelings are.
