Humans are animals, and fear and hatred of others have evolutionary roots — the “in-group” tribes vs. the “out-group” tribes.

But because of our complex brains, many people can overcome these inbred reactive traits. Many, like Trump and his supporters, cannot.

When people write of a “truck of peace” involved in a terror attack, thus tarring as an out group, as a Big Other, some two billion people, this is reactive fear and hatred.

I agree with what you say, but I'm not sure "over time" is a necessary qualifier. The list of nasty, bigoted, ignorant, and just plain deranged things that Trump has said since the escalator ride could fill several books. It not only doesn't matter anymore, but he of course picked up significant strength in several coveted demographics last year. In the fall campaign, at the rallies, he was rambling and at times raving. "They're eating the cats and dogs!" etc., etc. He said things that were so devoid of sense that he should have been laughed off the national stage. (Just read his Jimmy Goes to School story, which he is still telling. It's in psychosis territory.) His supporters would appear to have dysfunctional character assessment skills, to state the obvious. (They have all found ways to retell the saga of #45/47 as a domestic terrorist, so it isn't much of a stretch for them to ignore his stump speeches.)

He depicts Nixon gazing up at a portrait of JFK and saying, “In you, people see who they want to be. In me, they see who they really are.” While Nixon actually did ramble at the portraits, there is no evidence he spoke those words.

In tact, I am extremely distressed over what the world, not just our country is doing to immigrants, especially when we need them so badly.

Did any of you read about the immigrants being held in Panama, in an attempt to appease the felon regarding the Panama Canal? They have come from many nations and most all were seeking asylum, without any history of criminal behavior. One Chinese immigrant said, and I paraphrase. I thought I was coming to a country where I would be free. I didn't realize it was like a dictatorship. So much hatred toward those outside people's ingroups.

It's not all mythology. Young people, and young men, in particular, are not flourishing, and having a difficult time becoming independent of their parents. No. It's a hotel in Panama that is holding immigrants until they can set up some type of camp for them. I'll try and find a link later. I have a lot to do right now.
