On June 15, Hawaii state representative Chris Lee wrote a Reddit post about House Concurrent Resolution 89, a bill he says he introduced in order to "start a conversation about our future." According to Lee, "After much work and with the help of a few key colleagues, it passed both houses of the State Legislature unanimously."

The bill has two major provisions. First, it declares that all families in Hawaii are entitled to basic financial security. "As far as I'm told, it's the first time any state has made such a pronouncement," wrote Lee. The second provision establishes a number of government offices "to analyze our state's economy and find ways to ensure all families have basic financial security, including an evaluation of different forms of a full or partial universal basic income."

The congressman thanked "redditors" in his post, as he said the site became his first resource in considering UBI, and added a Reddit-standard TL;DR at the end: "The State of Hawaii is going to begin evaluating universal basic income."

A quick search on this thing called Google indicates a big fat NO. The Hawaii legislature in 2017 passed a bill that effectively did nothing.

Rats. I already bought my one way plane ticket. Does anyone know if I can get a refund? Was looking forward to an early retirement hangin' out at the beach.

I was thinking the same thing. Its the best weather in the world and with the cost of living issue resolved....just sign me up for early retirement living in paradise.

My grandparents did that! Then they moved back to Seattle three years later. Apparently a relaxed lifestyle does not effectively counterbalance milk that's 5 bucks a carton.

Hawaii is great if you really love Hawaii. Going anywhere else will be a big pain in the butt. Also, living somewhere without much agriculture, manufacturing, fuel, will make things get a bit pricey.

My wife wanted to go to Hawaii, until she found out they have bugs the size of pie plates. Now, not so much.

Forget Hawaii and come to the Philippines. Everything is just as good climate wise and the prices for everything are much much less.

No way... you are comparing two places with regular temps in the 80's, except one has normal humidity and the other is pegged at 100% year-round.
As someone living in a very dry state, I can tell you that's all the difference in the world.
Example - a 40 degree sunny day in Colorado is far more pleasant feeling than a 65 degree cloudy day in Florida. I know this from direct personal recent experience.

My only experience is comparing southeast asia to Canada. That's quite an extreme temperature difference :) But I cant speak to the humidity. I do find it comfortable in Thailand year round and comfortable in philippines in Canadian winter months.

Backwards? I was stunned how cold I was in 55 to 60 degree sunny weather in Phoenix.

Ya the altitude makes a huge difference in how powerful the sun feels against your skin. It could be 20 degrees out but ice won't stay frozen because it feels like the radiation from the sun at this altitude microwaves surfaces warm.

That is a start. If all states do it then we will not have to work....
