The moderate Christians and the moderate Muslims need to join forces to stop the insanity -- would it work?

fundy christians?
I suspect NobleSavage is referring to conservative/Evangelical Christians...the word "fundamentalist" is sort of out of favor with many groups. Though I wouldn't really agree with the sentiment. The Neocons, which has a large portion of the conservative/Evangelical Christians within them, are the dangerous ones IMPOV. But it has others like John McCain, who I don't think fits the religious label. And anyone who wants to be president pretty much has to prostitute themselves to the military-complex, as supported by Neocons. It becomes a heady mix of politics, money, and political ideology...

Oh, that I can see.

Carry on. ;)

The Christians that believe there is no such thing as a peaceful Muslim.

What about the free thinkers out there that believe there is no such thing as a peaceful muslim? Are they cause for fear as well?

We can't. It's the fear of modernity that drives these movements.
You think? I'd say the current ISIS problem was driven by the US destabilizing the middle east. The kids are over there have cell phones and are learning fast and they are saying they don't want to be apart of this violent nonsense.

How about a kickstarter project for all non-believers to construct a space faring ark and get off this rock? We can come back after the apocalypse.

Yes. I don't have problems with free thinkers criticizing Muslims as long as they apply the same standards to Christianity.

I hired a person in Pakistan to do some Photoshop work on a job board. We worked back and forth on Skype. He was 30, had a family, and by all standards looked western. He showed me pics of his family and of his city Lahore. I was expecting caves and burkas. Nope. I was just thinking if the peaceful people in the US could find peaceful pen palls in the middle east it would be a good start... and cost relatively nothing.

Much too radical an idea for moderates. Moderates are too busy working their jobs, raising their families, and paying their bills. I suppose we could join together for a rally but, you know parking's gonna be a bitch.

Yeah...how can we possibly forget how the folks, in the Middle East, have always begged the Western World for modernity??!!!

The problem as I see it, is that the moderates really don't have a leg to stand on. How does one go about debunking nonsense with nonsense? True, moderate religion is more desirable (from a peaceful perspective) then extreme religion, but what can they say, what or who can they appeal to, when they insist that they are right and their extremist brethren are wrong?

It reminds me of the abolitionist movement during the civil war in the U.S. Both sides of the slavery issue quoted scripture in defense of their position. Neither side can get the upper hand because neither side is appealing to reality. Isn't that foundation required?
