Aren't you going to thank Patooka for satisfying your "genuine" curiosity? Or at least correct his misconception that McConnell can "veto" House-allocated funding for vaccine research?
I'd add that Obama and his daughter wouldn't have had personal financial interests including hundreds of patents to lose by pressuring China to provide bio samples for vaccine development as requested in December (or earlier, had it been Obama), and we'd therefore be WAY further down that path by now. Funding for testing and case tracking would have been in place before there was an epidemic in the US.

I know you're "not a trumpsucker" but you probably think the black guy would have been selling jungle juice as a cure from kiosks on every corner in NYC, while the valiant Liberpublicans were trying their best to honor and advance the relevant science...

I originally figured that independent would have a mixed party voting record, but most I come across are basically Republican (or Democrat) in all but name- they just for some reason don't like being called one, even if that's how they exclusively vote.

Most independents that I come across are right-leaning, so never vote Democrat under any circumstances- but claim to be independent because if a Democrat candidate appeared who wasn't 'so left-wing nutty' they'd vote for them. Defined as a Democrat with right-wing Republican stances... :rolleyes:

On political polls these days I call myself independent because I don't agree with either party. However, I fear the Republicans far more than I fear the Democrats and thus vote close to 100% Democrat. Voting for the lesser evil doesn't make me a Democrat.

Wow, lighten up Francis. What's with the hissy fit? The responses to the OP imply that if Obama had been president, everything would have been wonderful! Farts smelling like roses. That lady in Arizona wouldn't now be charged with murdering her husband with fish tank cleaner. But if Obama was president, would he have stopped Cuomo from forcing nursing homes, with lots of elderly folks, to take Covid patients? Would he have stopped the Chinese New Year parade in New York City?

Some people would likely die, but a small fraction of the amount in our timeline. The right wing would hate him for:
  1. Letting some people die -- Obama is guilty of a crime against humanity.
  2. Ordering a big mobilization over a non-issue -- Obama is guilty of trying to make himself a dictator.

Better than Trump I feel little doubt, the administration is run by a buffoon who has for the most part surrounded himself by loyalists, and who clearly cares mostly about how this is affecting his popularity. He left a lot of the nuts and bolts part of our executive branch barely working. What remains he antagonizes as the dreaded deep state which he uses to fear-monger about and scapegoat. He is exactly the kind of base populist that cannot handle problems like a national emergency that require the sort of technocratic approach that is anathema to his entire political ethos. Furthermore, the Republicans have taken full advantage of having him in office to cut all sort of things they hate, among which are agencies that would have been preparing for things exactly like a pandemic.


But as good or even close to Korea? Doubtful. I don't think the American public really has it in them to do what was done in Korea. Just look at how much resistance exists now even to simple things like face masks. People are literally shooting each other over being asked to wear a mask in a store. I don't think Obama would overcome that.

I agree that it would be a cold day in hell when the American public acts in unison about... anything, really. But not many lives are being lost, or would have been lost under Obama due to requests by store owners to wear masks. At least not compared to the literal TONS of human flesh now rotting away due to this administration's dereliction of duty.
