Is the Champions League pointless? Critiquing European football

Liverpool advance the only way they know... barely, but only at the end. The outcome never seemed unknown once Mane scored. The loss to Roma was their first for the entire tournament. But 7-6 aggregate sees them through to Real Madrid in Kiev, Ukraine in late May.

Proof there is a God. The rain is keeping me from roofing our house tomorrow, so spending the afternoon watching the final it is.

What makes me particularly happy about this is that this year I've actually been following the tournament for a few months now, as well as listening to The Guardian Football Weekly.

That game was just a large heaping serving of disappointing ‘What If?’ for fans of Liverpool. They belonged.

Is it just me, or do star players always end up getting injured in games like this?

As soon as Salah was knocked out you'd almost want to call the game a bust. How meaningful is a win by RM when you've essentially cheated to win the game?

After that point it looked like Real legitimately won.. but eh, I'm tired of teams helping themselves win by knocking players out.

But Real didn’t “win”. It was 1-1 on non-wtf GK moments. Regardless, this team is young and held on even going down 1-0 against Real. The goal (first) by Bale was insidious. When he went up for it I was thinking, “That’s too high to get good contact.” *sigh*

Yea you hate to see two conceded that way in a big game like this, but then if the royal fuckups didn't count we'd have to re-write the entirety of sports history.

That’s an option?! I’ll get an eraser!

Real Madrid proved to be the better team. Even with a sub par performance from Ronaldo, they managed to carve out the win thanks to the depth of the squad. Liverpool just came up a bit short and definitely need a new goalkeeper. Or two.
