Identifying as a minority can, in limited settings designed to elevate minorities and allow equality to come even from unequal life circumstances, be beneficial. In many cases of is designed to offset the fact that it is harder to get loans or interviews if you so much as have a "black-sounding name".

It isn't about desperation as much as sometimes the disclosure of a minority racial background may be the only way to get a foot in a door that is otherwise held shut when they see you coming.

I don't expect you to understand that, though.

And seriously, I've detailed maybe 10-15 times now on these very forums the phenomena of how people predictably get indoctrinated into racism against their own race, not to mention others (particularly in the case of MAGA against people of Hispanic descent, though also other forms of non-race prejudice and intimidation).

It usually goes something along the lines of "the messages presented to society which create white racist thought against black people is also something black people are exposed, and as equally capable humans, certainly not immune to."
