Jim Jones, Marxist, Atheist

Jim Jones, atheist?

In other news, sources now claim Christopher Hitchens was in fact a secret Muslim, Genghis Khan was really a pacifist, and Jesus was virulently anti-semitic.

And some people still take Starman seriously.

Okay, that last bit is clearly absurd.

Why is this here?

Well, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The whole universe was in a hot, dense state, then nearly 14 billion years ago, expansion started. Wait;

There's a fair bit more to it, and time constraints suggest that it is probably best to cut to the end:

...And then Starman posted a link to the article on TFT, for all of us to laugh at.

Admirer of Chairman Mao, Jim Jones was responsible for the largest mass murder/suicide in history, 909 people.
909? The largest in history? Um, haven't you heard of the mass murder/suicide at Masada? 960 people were killed.

(Personally, I'd say the largest mass suicide would have to be a toss-up between the Great Leap Forward and Operation Barbarossa -- roughly thirty million apiece. But that might be stretching the definition a tad.)

I particularly like the way they use a fictionalised drama movie as "evidence".
Hey, if they want to brag that Christains are so gullible they'll follow an atheist Marxist to the largest a massive murder/suicide party, I say we must respect their journalistic integrity and discernment.

I believe the largest mass murder in recent history was the bombing in Vietnam and Cambodia done by the US.

Millions killed.

Unless you are suggesting that Vietnam and Cambodia asked for it, that doesn't fall under the suicide category.

I didn't say anything about suicide.

I was just pointing out what Christian nations are capable of.

Is there any sort of evidence that Jones was not a Christain, or is it just assumed that a communist must be an atheist?

Jones came from the Seventh Day Adventists, but he did get enamored with the social justice movements of the 60s and 70s espousing socialism, but a cultist socialism. He used these issues to recruit the estranged and the downtrodden to great effect. Jones, like other cult leaders claimed to be everything from an atheist to the second coming of Jesus himself. I believe articles like these distract from the actual methods and development of totalitarian cults like the People's Temple, because they perpetuate the myth of the boogeyman that the right needs to hate.

ACORN=People's Temple

Wiki has this link that goes into more details, where Jim Jones babbles: "Transcript of Recovered FBI tape Q 134." Alternative Considerations of Jonestown and Peoples Temple. Jonestown Project: San Diego State University.]

So on down the road, I became even more alienated by that event. I decided, how can I demonstrate my Marxism? The thought was, infiltrate the church. So I consciously made a decision to look into that pro— that prospect. Particularly was it inspired upon me — (struggles for words) I say infil— infiltrate the church. It really was brought to my attention by a very kindly (Pause) and I pause, because of again feeling that it can reflect on others — a man who had a great deal of conscience that seemed to be compatible to my views, who was a church administrator of a denomination, and he, he encouraged me to think about being a pastor. And so I did. (Laughs) Very quickly did. I’d had my religious heritage in Pentecostalism — deep-rooted emotions in the Christian tradition (Pause) and a deep love which I share to this day for the practical teachings of Jesus Christ. It had always been a sort of dual concept: a doubter, and yet a believer. Certainly I had great questions about anthropomorphic beings and a loving order to the universe, but Jesus Christ, to use a kid’s phrase, greatly turned me on. And I tried very hard through my years in the church — whatever uh, someone else might look upon my role uh, however they would look upon it, they could see a great deal of sensitivity to the Christian teachings. Not only my brand of Marxism, but in Pentecostal tradition, I saw that when the early believers came together, they sold their possessions and had all things common. So I tried very hard to live up to that concept throughout my years. (Pause)
He was Nucking Futs. Everything beyond that is mostly questionable. Besides, anyone that Acts communally (aka communistic) can’t be a Real Christian…LOL

What I find funny is this attempt to lump Jim Jones into progressive politics. See! You are a mass murdering lunatic!!!

And of course, it was all hidden because you know, the atheist have a powerful lobby in the US.

It seems to me that this is discussing what brand of insanity made him commit insane acts.

Was it insane communal Marxism or was it insane communal Christianity?

What tipped the balance for the author seemed to that he only used Christianity to lure in people so that he could corrupt their Christianity with rants against social injustice, racism and income inequality. Things that no right minded Christian would oppose I suppose.

His was not a religious cult at all. It was atheist Marxism, masquerading as Christianity.
