Jimmy Carter becomes oldest living American president
Jimmy Carter can add another title to a lifetime of achievements: He's now the longest-living U.S. president.

As of Thursday evening, the 39th commander-in-chief is 94 years and 172 days old — surpassing George H.W. Bush, who died in November at 94 years and 171 days old.
He was also the first US President to be born in a hospital.

He had a mixed record as president, with some foreign-policy successes, like the Camp David agreements between Israel and Egypt and giving the Panama Canal back to Panama, but also the humiliation of the US Embassy personnel being held hostage in Iran.

That's fantastic. He was the one person, I think that gave dignity back to the office of the Presidency after president Ford who was the only president not voted into office, if I remember correctly, who let President Nixon off the hook for Water Gate. I just wonder how many names would have surfaced If Noxon wasn't pardoned and the Congress started investigating that little rabbit hole.

Anyway, The Embassy disaster was most likely be the one thing that his presidency will be remembered for and that is a tragedy.becuse he is a good man and you can see that by what he's done since leaving office.

Well, there is the Swamp Rabbit attack...

And everyone in my industry will remember he's the one who put the Trident Sub base in a goddamned Georgia swamp...

Um... Didn't he become the 'oldest living' ex-president the moment that Bush died?

On Thursday, he may have become the longest-lived. Or something. There's got to be a better way to phrase it.

They should rename SWFLANT to SWAMPFLANT. Not to mention that he called them "nucular" rather than "nuclear" powered subs. And this coming from a guy who worked on nuclear subs.

Wikipedia to the rescue:  List of Presidents of the United States

Of the now-dead presidents, George Bush I is the champion in longevity at 94 years. Next up are Ronald Reagan and Jerry Ford at 39 years, and then John Adams and Herbert Hoover at 90 years.

Even with cancer, he looks healthier than Bill Clinton. (Clinton looks like FDR if FDR had been left out in the rain for a couple of hours at Yalta.)

I think his maner of speech is due to him being a southerner. I remember President Bush having the same issue, being brought up about him.

I don't know about an attack. I'm not familiar with these swamp this and that comments. I only know what I've heard in conversations when his name was brought up.

Oops, typo. Ronald Reagan and Jerry Ford both lived 93 years.

At the time, it got as much press as his Polish interpreter telling Poland 'I (Carter) want to know the Poles carnally.' Even made SNL News, IIRC.

You had to be there....

Isn't his longevity due to the radiation he was exposed to back in the 70's at Two Mile Island?

He has always seemed to be an extremely good and honorable man.

Yeah, he's got a Ned Flanders, God is definitely-on-his-side sort of vibe.

Certainly, from my perspective looking back, he was one of the better Presidents. Certainly much better than most that followed.

Let's see. Under his watch we let Iran fall to the Islamists (his UN ambassador even called Khomeini a "saint"), there was stagflation, and he managed to lose reelection to a B-list actor...
