Yes, the announcement was made two weeks ago, but we don't seem to have a thread about it.

Your thoughts?

I'm much more excited that they're finally kicking Steven Moffat out of the showrunner seat. I've had enough of his nonsense. I'd take a talking frog as the Doctor as long as we have anyone but him in charge of the show.

(Ironically though, Moffat was the one who came up with the first female doctor back in 1999 so it's not like this is a particularly bold idea.)

Actually Moffat was not the first to suggest a female Doctor.

That would be the show's co-creator - Sydney Newman - in the mid-1980's

I actually enjoyed Steven Moffat's run during Matt Smith's tenure as the Doctor. Not as much for Peter Capaldi. I don't think he quite knew what to do with Peter, and mostly wasted a really good actor.

I am also looking forward to seeing what Chris Chibnall does, and I am super excited for Jodie Whittaker. I didn't care either way until I saw the reveal, but then I just knew she is perfect for the part.

I'm stoked. Can't wait for the Christmas special. She looks like a time lord to me!

Also enjoyed those first few days of broflake poutrage after the announcement. They were almost entirely people who don't know shit about the show to begin with. :D

I agree with this. Matt Smith's quirkiness seemed to work well with Moffat's stories, but even toward the end of Smith's run, I thought things were going a bit off the rails. He definitely had no idea what to do with Capaldi, and for me it seemed like every instinct he had with regard to Capaldi as the Doctor was wrong. I stopped watching midway through his second season, so I am glad to see Moffat go even though I respect Moffat for his writing contributions to the revived series as well as most of his time as show runner for the Matt Smith seasons. Once Chibnall takes over, I will start watching again with hope for the new series, the biggest hope being that he doesn't blow it.
