Julian Assange Could Be Turned Over To U.K. Authorities Soon

His time living in a closet in the embassy is punishment enough. He is 47 and looks like death warmed over. Let him go to Russia who he seems to like. He can join Snowden.

He's not some great freedom fighter that a lot of the right wing want to make him out to be. If he were, he would have turned dirt equally on either side of the political spectrum. He's a right wing political stooge, used to discredit one side only, and much of what he 'released' was doctored or redacted to only make one side look bad.

In spite of that, the right wing still looks bad. Also, trump suddenly doesn't know a thing about wikileaks, in spite of all his praise of wikileaks in 2016. It's like he doesn't even understand how video recordings work.....

Okay, the indictment is out.The Justice Dept claims they have proof Assange assisted Chelsea Manning in getting into a defence department computer to steal data. That part of an indictment that was accidentally included in another indictment a few months ago is the Assange indictment.

The right wing hates him too. They hated him ever since the helecoptor video. He made the war (and the right wing which supports the war) look bad.

Most of his support comes from libertarians, not the right wing.

They are saying Assange attempted to crack an encryption code for Manning. That would be conspiracy and espionage.

It is being said that while we have an extradiction trety with the Brits they are distustful of our justice sysm, and it is a high bar to extradite.

it is not a given.

I watched a bio on PBS. Apparently it goes back to when he was a teen and his mother had some medical or other problems. He hacked some systems.

The article said:
Assange has been holed up in the embassy since 2012, after he fled Sweden over allegations of sexual assault and rape. Though prosecutors dropped the case last year, he still faces arrest for breaching bail conditions should he leave the embassy.

I think Assange is a bit of a narcissistic asshat, but this is still ridiculous.

Indeed. Swedes will pursue sexual assault claims, even weak ones about sex without a condom, to the ends of the Earth as long as the accused is white and blonde, but if the suspect is a Yemeni or Afghan fakefugee/rapefugee raping a 13 year old they will just give him probation and protection from getting deported. Crazy world!

It's your legal system they distrust.

You don't have a justice system, which is why they don't trust your legal system.

Why Ecuador ended asylum for 'spoiled brat' Julian Assange President Lenin Moreno: "We've ended the asylum of this spoiled brat, ... From now on we'll be more careful in giving asylum to people who are really worth it, and not miserable hackers whose only goal is to destabilize governments. ... When you're given shelter, cared for and provided food, you don't denounce the owner of the house."

Inside the embassy, Julian Assange used a small office as a bedroom.
As the asylum dragged on, his relations with his hosts soured and his behavior became more erratic. Embassy staff complained of him skateboarding at night, playing loud music and walking around in his underwear with no apparent concern for others in the tiny embassy.

One senior Ecuadorian official described his room as a "sovereign territory within a sovereign territory" that none of the staff at No. 3 Hans Crescent could enter. But the stench from going weeks without a shower, and dental problem born of poor hygiene, was a constant nuisance, according to the official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he isn't authorized to discuss details of Assange's behavior.

hen there was the issue of Assange's poop, which authorities said he spread across embassy walls on at least one occasion in an act of open defiance showing how little he thought of his hosts.
Julian Assange fights asylum terms dictating he has to pay for food, cat care
The protocol stipulates new terms for Assange that include limits on how many visitors he can receive and when. It also says that because of budget cuts, the embassy is no longer able to pay medical, laundry or food costs associated with Assange's stay and that he has to keep his living area and bathroom clean, as well as pay for his pet cat's food and wellbeing.
JA also annoyed his hosts by expressing support for Catalan separatists.
The final straw for Moreno was WikiLeaks' decision to spread information about a purported offshore account controlled by the president's brother. Personal photographs of Moreno lying in bed, as well as images of close family members dancing, were also leaked, further incensing him.

Funny how this happened just after Mueller shut down.

Probably a coincidence.

The indictment has been waiting for months. Remember that piece of an indictment that got accidentally attached to another court document? That was the Assange indictment. If Ecuador decided to kick him out then, he still would have been arrested.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

As Ben Franklin said, both fish and visitors stink after three days.

Although the US empire is in decline, it is nice to know that the UK is still a vassal state.

He broke UK law by failing to appear in court for the Sweden extradition request due to allegations of rape and molestation. Are you saying UK should let him break their laws with no consequences?

I don't know if I'd call him a right wing stooge. He certainly allowed himself to be used by the republicans. He hated democrats. And he only seem to attack western democracies. He's not bothered by totalitarian governments. I've never understood why. Secondly, I understand why libertarians don't like the western governments. But do they ignore rightwing or totalitarian govs? I don't get it...

So the punishment for failing to appear in court is extradition to the US?

Here's why Ecuador kicked Assange out of the embassy – VICE News -- more misbehavior in his home there:
Skateboarding: Valencia outlined some of Assange’s more erratic behavior inside the embassy, including skateboarding, a practice Ecuador’s former ambassador to Britain, Juan Falconí Puig, said “damaged floors, walls, and doors.” Assange also liked to play soccer inside with many of the guests who visited. On one occasion when a security guard took Assange’s ball away, the WikiLeaks founder shoved the guard, grabbed the ball and “launched the ball at his body.”

...
Aggressive behavior: Both Moreno and Valencia described Assange’s behavior towards embassy staff as “aggressive.” This included insulting embassy staff and using a loudspeaker in the middle of the night. He also used to block security cameras and accuse staff of spying on him.
