It's interesting this topic hasn't come up in this election until now. But will it be enough to make a difference in the swing states?

The position itself is good. But trying to racialize it is weird and counterproductive.

And as you said, she should have come out with it before 11:55 as it were. Some states are already voting.

More white people smoke dope but more black people get busted for it.

It's been discussed by the Biden administration for quite some time.

Biden was never in favor of recreational marijuana legalization. He supported decriminalization for users and reclassifying it as a less dangerous drug, but still illegal to produce and sell.

That maybe so but it was still better than the status quo.

This speaks to the fact that Biden and Harris are different people with different agendas...which is completely normal. I don't think any reasonable person would think that hyper-Christian Pence was entirely down with super-predator Trump. Same is true going back as far as anyone can remember. Bush 41 calling trickle-down "Voodoo Economics" comes to mind.

Good on Harris for coming out and saying something which needed to be said for decades. The "War on Drugs" has been an unmitigated disaster.

More last minute pandering to Black men to get their vote.

Because...? Sorry, but it seems like you're saying this is akin to her coming out and advocating for lowering the price of watermelon and friend chicken. Because "that's what the black folks want."

I think it’s right to advocate for legal weed. I doubt that it disproportionately benefits black people - it’s not like racist cops will stop harassing & killing.

I think it kind of is, isn't it? Appealing to the Snoop Dog and Bob Marley faction. :)

Its gotta be something like that, right, otherwise, why single out black men in her message? I kinda wonder if the "White Dudes for Kamala" gang are starting to get a little pissy now, sayin' "Hey! What about us? We like the buds too! What are we...chopped liver?!"

I don't think there's a downside to this one. Legalized weed has even come to my state, and we're red as baboon ass.
I grew up in small-town Michigan - deep red in rural areas - and I smoked quite a lot of weed in the 80s. Never had to go to the "black part of town" to score any, because it was everywhere. Hell, one of my college fraternity brothers was busted and sent to jail because one of the people in his little drug ring - whose nickname was "Whitey" - got caught and turned on the rest of them.

Now that I think of it, all of my experiences with the herb were with white dudes. When I went to that Love and Rockets concert in downtown Detroit, you could get a contact high from breathing deeply, but there wasn't a black person to be found...except for the backup singer they brought onstage for "So Alive."

Well that nails it, she's obviously pandering to white dudes.

They are eating the pets v. Long overdue legalization of marijuana pandering.

Gee, let me think for a moment which is less ridiculous.

"Does anyone remember that scene in Back to the Future? The blacks, they were outside smoking the weed, and Marty McFly...a great American...caught them and one of them broke their hand on the car. Sad, but MARTY MCFLY got on stage with the guitar and he played the song...and that's how Chuck Berry...a great American...but he liked to watch the ladies pee...that's how Marty McFly invented rock and roll. Biff was there, too. Who loves Biff?! He was a great American...very tough. Nobody was tougher than Biff. He came back for the second movie and - let me tell you - I think they copied Trump for his character. He ran a casino, and I ran a casino, very successfully I might add, but then they went back to the Wild West. Who remembers the Wild West?! They got back to the future by using a train, and nobody knows trains like Trump! Does anyone else remember trains? He said '88 miles an hour!' and that's what we're doing! Full steam ahead with the trains!"

(Donald Trump, probably)

Weed is unquestionably a lot less dangerous than alcohol. If the latter is legal it's crazy that the former is not. I see no legitimate downside to this. (Yes, it will hurt the weed growers and some other such groups. Those that benefit from it's illegality shouldn't do so.)
