One of the sillier parts of being President of the US is the annual Thanksgiving Turkey pardon. It's pretty dumb, but no one can find a reason to stop doing it. It's a great media event and there's always the hope to get a pic of the President with turkey poop on his tie.
This year, it included two teen girls watching their father talk to the nation about pardoning the life of a turkey, with the expected facial expressions of teen girls in this situation.
What do you do with a media professional who sees a picture of this event and then tweetcasts this diatribe to the world:
These are the words of former Communications Director Elizabeth Lauten. She used to work for a Tennessee Congressman, but is now unemployed.
When I read this, I thought it had to be one of those mistaken "reply to all" things, where a message meant for a small group went to the entire world. The "Dress like you deserve respect..." line is totally off the track. The girls are dressed modestly enough to fit into a Pentecostal Bible study. It's like there is a quota for nasty things said about the President and she was a day behind.
A groveling apology was not enough to save her job, which is probably best for all of us, but she is still my favorite for the "What were you thinking?" award of 2014.

Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department. Nevertheless, stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don’t make faces during televised public events.
