Let's Invade the United States!

Most of that manufacturing can be moved back to US in very short time. Certainly US is better in that regard than the rest of the world.

They need to be twenty times as good, just to maintain their present relative position.
True, but in case of the war americans will scale back on luxury.

Are you under the impression that a fully mobilized America can contend with the entire rest of the world?

In a a long run no. But it is a very long run, in a less long run rest of the world does not stand a chance.

The US contains 5% of the world's land, and 5% of its population; so in principle the rest of the world has them seriously under the hammer on both a mineral and manpower resources front. Add to that the fact that actual manufacturing facilities are, today, largely concentrated in SE Asia, and it looks like the US is going to be seriously up against it.

The real problem is keeping the lights on....literally. Given the easy production of missiles and their ranges, the US would be bombarded from all four directions. Each one of these has the capability of ending production of new planes and ships, not to mention power grids and oil lines.
The US on the other hand has to go after every other nations infrastructure around the globe. Knocking out one doesn't do it. It is just a numbers game, and in the end that is what defeated Germany and Japan in WW2. It would be really hard for America to defend the entire continent of NA, while protecting it's industries and having a kill ratio of 20-1.
With each missile landed America's chances fade.

I am pretty much in agreement with OLDMAN and LordKiran.

I think one thing that everybody is ignoring is the Fifth Column.

You are assuming that if the scenario outlined in the OP went forth, that the US would approach the consequences as a united entity. I don't think it would be. I think you would see active resistance early and extensively. Indeed, I think the first thing that the described actions would engender is a civil war....a debilitating civil war.

I'm not so sure. Americans are easily led to war and easily swallow propaganda. I think the underground resistance from within would mostly be from Canadians (ironically) after the US took Canada over to secure the North American continent. You'd have the Canadian Underground as you had the French in WW2.

They would probably be sent south just before the outbreak of the war. Blending in would be easy, as well as their knowledge of the US targets. A couple hundred thousand of them could do a shit pile of damage to the vital infrastructures of the war machine.

Yes, and it would be very easy for Canadians to cross the border even after the US attempts to secure it. It is just that damn big. Hiding in the USA would be easier than hiding in Nazi Germany too, since the USA is also quite a large bit of land.Canada has always been at the USA's military mercy, but Canada has also always been a great vulnerable point for the US. That border is ridiculously porous.
