I thought the above was a good summary of the history of the character from the perspective of racial issues inherent to the character, some intentional, some accidental.
As the op-ed points out, Daredevil was about gentrification, Jessica Jones was about sexual assault, PTSD and women's issues. The author speculates that in the same vein, Luke Cage will tackle the Black Lives Matter issue in some capacity or another. The recently leaked photos seem to bear this out.

Luke Cage in the comic books almost always wears a yellow shirt, yet the leaked photos went out of their way to depict him in an uncharacteristic grey hoodie fighting white cops. Marvel was never shy about tackling tough subject matter, but you can't accuse them of being subtle with the metaphors.
Anyway, feel free to speculate on the possible racial themes of the upcoming Netflix show, or just discuss the show in general. I loved the version of Luke Cage they showed in Jessica Jones, and I can't wait to see more of him!
