Calling things socialism that aren't socialism

Quite right. Let's all agree not to call it socialism. The correct name is "What you actually get from Marxists who promised you socialism".

Absolutely, with the addendum that anyone who believes that socialism can be achieved through the promises of someone else (whether it be a party, an official organization, or a single politician) is only calling himself a Marxist. There is a left and right wing to Marxism, believe it or not, and the most scathing criticism of Lenin, Mao, and later Stalin came from the left, which was libertarian and opposed to state authority, following the tradition of Marx himself. One such person was Rosa Luxemburg, a Polish Marxist who would later be assassinated by the German social democrats 100 years ago today.
