Microsoft is trying to soften the blow from an upcoming layoff. They are planning to cut 4,700 jobs from their Nokia factory in Beijing. This will leave only 300 employees at this factory, a plan which has already drawn protests from workers.

Maybe if the Chinese workers weren't such greedy misfits then MS could have afforded to keep more of them on.

As said by others, Nokia was/is bleeding money. The better question is why did MS buy them? There is a lot of speculation:
