More bathroom politics

"We can definitely define the race of people. It's very hard to define transgender or gender identity," [North Carolina Gov. Pat] McCrory said.
http://abc11.com/politics/gov-pat-mccrory-faces-feds-deadline-on-lgbt-law/1329642/

This is the argument they are going with?

Really?

They are going with what they call "common-sense" definitions. The purpose of biologically segregated bathrooms is to separate people by biology, not by sexual identity. Holding to this original purpose, the proposed guidance is to go with biological standards, not psychological.

What do you see as the problem with that?

How are you going to do this without a genital check? Or issuing IDs at birth?

And then there is this problem of Intersex Humans.

I think that when the people who are revved up and made angry by these transgender MTF predators!!!!!!!1!!1! and beat a few to death in the men's room that there might be some action.

Was there ever an issue of transgender (mostly male to female) going to the restroom before? Are these shithead politicians gutting the state or selling off property? What is this being used to smokescreen for?

Also there should not be a law on the other side saying that a transgender MTF should not be allowed to use the men's room anymore. Imagine a case where a woman screams at a MTF walking into the women's restroom. Well at that point it would be best to go to the men's room because when she comes out that lady's boyfriend may kick her transwoman ass.

At any rate, I hope this doesn't lead to unisex restrooms for all, because it would be to much of an expense retrofitting them.

Other problems with gender neutral restrooms for all in the US if done very quickly:

It will hammer small businesses much worse. (and they already are getting shafted by not getting sweetheart tax deals like for Boeing as example)

What to do with urinals?

Have to make the stall dividers much higher and lower, expensive!

Subject women to the stench of stale urine and piss on their shoes, and honestly it has always been tough for me to completely piss sitting down even as a teen.

And culturally won't be able to have the ladies powder room break anymore.

McRory is probably going to Sam Brownback his state, and this is the smokescreen.

Alarm bells should be going off.

the locker room issue is more tricky...

Why did the Charlotte ordinance get made in the first place?

It was never a problem before a vocal minority declared it a problem of some sort. There never was a 'genital check', and no one proposed such a thing. Why be silly? Your birth certificate does indeed indicate your physical sex.. so call that an 'ID card', if you like. If your actions offend someone (you appear male to the reasonable person, but enter the female rest room - or vice versa) then it is you that needs to change behavior, not the rest of the world. Go into the bathroom that you are accepted in by the community that is sharing the facility together.

No. Community sentiments don't identify people. Unless there is compelling reason, insanity or extreme physical capability requiring special care, a person is allowed to identify as she feels comfortable. While communities may have men and women bathrooms it doesn't determine what one believes is their sexual identity. At some point one has to go on trust in communities of people.

Call me the next time a transgender person attacks your daughter in the little girls room. It will be a first.

I agree that there was never a problem until a vocal minority declared it a problem, but that "vocal minority" are people like North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory and whatever religious/conservative group he is beholden to.

Now, because he decides to make it an issue, it is costing his state millions, yet he has no hope of actually enforcing his stupid law except for demanding a birth certificate at the bathroom door.

Bullshit. While communities do not identify idividuals, they identify customs. People that appear male, use the men's room. People that appear female, use the ladies room. It is quite simple. Always has been. Transgender is not new. The ability for any asshole to be widely heard is the only new thing here.
It is a men's room, not a 'sexually interested in females room'. It is a lady's room, not a 'sexually interested in men room'.
I personally do not want to know the sexual interests of strangers.. why do you?

The division is to make the people using the facility comfortable. What makes people comfortable is that they are sharing it with people that have the same pee-pee organs. not that the use their pee-pee organs the same way for fun.

Yes, it is a small group of conservatives who have declared it a problem. Otherwise it ain't been a problem for years.

There never was a 'genital check', and no one proposed such a thing. Why be silly?
How else are you going to know who is TRULY a man, or TRULY a woman.

Your birth certificate does indeed indicate your physical sex.. so call that an 'ID card', if you like.
Does this mean I need to carry my birth certificate with me when I use the men's room? Who is going to check this ID?

If your actions offend someone (you appear male to the reasonable person, but enter the female rest room - or vice versa) then it is you that needs to change behavior, not the rest of the world.
My actions offend people all the time. It is often their problem.

Go into the bathroom that you are accepted in by the community that is sharing the facility together.
Which is what has been going on for years. Now they want to stop that.

What makes people comfortable is to go into clean restrooms and do their business quickly with a minimum of fuss. The last thing most normal people would want is to see police (especially of the different gender) coming in and hassling someone going to the bathroom. And who the fuck carries their birth certificate around? I cannot imagine most public safety officers look forward to having to enforce this bigoted and assholish law.

direct your "bathroom police" questions to Nice Squirrel. It is that poster that suggested ID cards or whatever. I was mocking the idea with my response, not supporting it.

I am aware of only 1 topic of "bathroom politics" that actually exists, in the men's room.

When choosing which urinal to use, pick the one that is most distant from all other users. It is impolite to choose an adjacent urinal when another option is available.

People that appear male, use the men's room. People that appear female, use the ladies room.

Not in North Carolina. In NC if you appear female but have male genitals then you still have to use the men's room. According to NC law, appearance doesn't matter. Your birth gender assignment is what is written in the law.

What makes people comfortable is that they are sharing it with people that have the same pee-pee organs. not that the use their pee-pee organs the same way for fun.

You know what kind of "pee pee organs" are in the next stall? You might be doing it wrong.

Do lefties want peope who are cisgendered to be able to go to the opposite gender restroom or locker room?

It's about pandering to the smallest fringe group you can.

If someone is cisgender, then they don't identify as the opposite gender. Do you want to go into the women's restroom?

It's about pandering to the smallest fringe group you can.

Given that cisgendered is the largest group, and the farthest thing you can get from "the smallest fringe group", your response is typically inane.

In one of our venues we are eliminating gendered restrooms altogether. These restrooms are busy and if something were to happen there would be dozens of witnesses.

As for locker rooms. I already have women in my locker room and we dress in front of each other. Once you get used to it, it is no big deal. We are human.
