Squirrel, in OUR part of the world, in OUR public restrooms, Republican Senators try to pick up other men for quick sex.

I have seen dozens of penises in men's bathrooms without trying. Urinals makes it impossible not to occasionally see them, plus I have experienced numerous times, men changing in the restroom, which is often near impossible to do in the stalls, given how small they can be. This is very common in restrooms at parks, beaches, etc.. Plus, I know from female friends that it is not uncommon for females to be in various states of undress in female bathrooms, including grade-school bathrooms.

Locker rooms are part of the same issue, and there are cases where schools are allowing males to change in the same room as females.

... OTOH, I get the sense that such laws were themselves reactions to various incidents happening in schools. It really all comes down to schools. Everyone at school knows what kids are transgender, because they are around them all the time. Even, externally "convincing" transgenders are known. Thus, whenever they enter the bathroom of their non-biological sex, all the females in their know that a biological male is in there with them. I get the sense that it was actually transgenders and their advocates who ignited the issue by pushing for transgenders using female restrooms in schools (the vast majority are M to F), where it is inherently an issue because of the larger social context in which the biological sex of the transgender is well known and all the students involved have daily interactions, and the bathrooms are commonly used for changing and primping, and things that expose oneself. Plus, in several places transgenders have pushed to have the transgender with full male anatomy change along side biological girls.

It is not just conservative politicians reacting to that, but the girls themselves, many (if not most) who feel as or more uncomfortable with that as the transgender does using the bathroom or locker corresponding to their biological anatomy. It is perfectly legit to question why the psychological comfort of a transgender should trump the psychological comfort of numerous young girls, who are not being bigots but just having natural insecurities and emotional reactions about exposing themselves in front of biological males and being exposed to male genitalia, no matter what type of underwear is being taken off to expose it.

Conservatives are making the wrong arguments and most are likely just reacting based on bigoted fears. But there is a very legit basis to doubt the reasonableness, ethics, and fairness of forcing biological females to defecate and get naked in the same room as biological males. It is no more bigoted or intolerant of the females who object than it is bigoted or intolerant for the transgender to not want to use the room that males use.

The blindness of so many on the left to such legit concerns and the psychological welfare of young women on this issue is just part of their general ideology that the only struggles, preferences, or concerns that matter are those of people who belong to non-majority categories.

Every article I have seen of any issues at schools - the students... "the girls" as you put it... had no issues whatsoever. My sense of it is that the younger generations by and large are far more tolerant and understanding than the older generation. Moreover, as far as I have read, it generally isn't even the teachers or school administration that makes this an issue. It is usually some religious nut parent or religious nut school board member.

Do you have any links to support your claim? None of the parents of young girls nor young girls I know think this is an issue at all.

I've never seen a penis in a men's bathroom (urinal) and I am a very tall guy.

Yep, the ERA doesn't encourage, discourage, mandate or prohibit providing separate places to disrobe for men and women. The article (from the 1970's?) doesn't even mention transgenders who, BTW, have as much individual right to privacy as everybody else.

So... where's the transphobia?

I can't recall ever seeing someone change in a men's room but you're definitely right about the urinals.

I cannot recall ever seeing anyone else's dick in a public restroom in all my years of using them (over 50 years).
 
What bathrooms are intersexed people supposed to use? They're supposed to go by what is on their birth certificates but a lot of the time, their sex starts moving in the other direction after puberty. So how well would that work?

The only time I had was before they renovated the bathrooms at Fenway and they still had the troughs.

That said - the whole urinal issue is moot. Any trans person would have the ability to use a stall, as would any man who doesn't want to catch sight of a foreign donger.

same reason they will be traumatized for life if they see a female nipple while a woman is breastfeeding, I guess.
