One assassinated MP doesn't make a Civil War. It is a tragedy, but we've seen much darker in our own nation.

I'm not really talking about one tragedy. I haven't been partaking in other threads here about Trump, the Orlando shooting, etc. This was just the final straw. I'm letting out some of my feelings here that have been building up. I didn't mean to say this one tragedy is THE thing that will doom us.

Two words, George Wallace and the Civil Rights movement.

Okay, that was much more than two words. Trump is unique in the sense that he has broken almost all conventions in his run. But we've seen crazy elections too. Things definitely muddled, thanks to people like Palin and the Tea Party movement, but we may be witnessing their dissolution, not the US's dissolution.

Graeme Howard, 38, who lives in nearby Bond Street, told the Guardian he heard the man shout “Britain first” before the shooting and during the arrest. “I heard the shot and I ran outside and saw some ladies from the cafe running out with towels,” he said. “There was loads of screaming and shouting and the police officers showed up.

“He was shouting ‘Britain first’ when he was doing it and being arrested. He was pinned down by two police officers and she was taken away in an ambulance.”

Labour MP Jo Cox has been shot and killed in an attack in her constituency near Leeds today.

The 41-year-old mother of two was shot three times and attacked with a knife during the incident in Birstall, West Yorkshire, an eyewitness said.

Police have confirmed she has now died.

I'm beginning to think the world is falling apart. Enough with the killing!

What a terrible tragedy. Yet the British police managed to apprehend this armed and dangerous killer without shooting him.

I reading about how in the late 1800s there was panic about the death of the traditional family because of divorce.

And where are the people who were in those families now? Dead, every single one of them - that's where they are.

Interestingly on topic for this derail, Emma Morano married in 1926 but had an unhappy marriage so she kicked her husband out of the house in 1937. But she never go divorced and remained married to him until the day he died of old age in 1978. She credits her longevity to eating 3 (raw) eggs a day and being single.

People really need to start using their words to solve problems instead of their weapons.

There are far less wars today, far less poverty, far less misery. But people are pessimistic.
