Newest race based nonsense

So this a problem of race/racism for certain people on this board.

Black boys and men getting shot, that is justified.

Rich and famous black folk not wanting to go a party were rich and famous people give awards to each others, that is a racial high crime and misdemeanor.

No. And your comparisons and analogies have nothing to do with anything.

Why is it so unbelievable that for this year, black people didn't make films the Academy believed were Oscar worthy?

Is it more believable that the entire Academy either conspired to keep out black people, or that other people made more notable films?
Or, is it more believable that sudden institutional racism has gripped the Academy than it is that other people made more notable films?

The real downside of this now is that next year, when the Academy puts up X number of films made by black people, and nominates X number of black actors, people are going to see it as contrived. Will they have been nominated for their quality, or just because they wanted to not take a bunch of shit?

Until this hubbub is forgotten about, every one is going to question the motives of the Academy when it comes to giving out awards to black people. And that's not good.

There are at least a billion black people and I am sure some of them made movies, wrote movie scores, directed and produced, and acted in quality movies. Not one nomination....give me a break. I just don't watch the thing because it is silly....just plain silly, just like the CMA the Grammy's, and the Post Toasties. It is about time we start looking at things for ourselves and stop giving authority to the opinions of powerful people. After Hanks got his award for Forrest Gump, that was about as much of their shit as I wanted to watch.

I disagree.

Why are you asking me? I didn't start the thread. I just started reading and asked some questions that have yet to answered. The Academy has spent DECADES thinking black artists work is not worthy of consideration, so I am actually surprised when black work gets even a mention, much less a statue. This year is pretty much business as usual when taken as part of Oscar history. The difference is this year, some black artists have decided that this is a ceremony they will miss because they feel the work of black people is being slighted. This has some people outside of the Hollywood colony who have never set foot on a soundstage, never operated a camera, never lit a scene, never memorized a line, never even stolen a bag of chip off a craft's table all up in a tizzy. This seems bizarre to me. And it shows to what lengths some people have to go to show some sort of appearance of racial unfairness that doesn't involve the majority fucking with a minority.

That happens anyway. If this year there were no awards, next year people would be low rating black artists who might get a nomination. Prejudice is in the bigot and no matter how wonderful a black artist may be, the bigot is still going to think that artist as being less than. Not because of anything the artist does, but because of what the bigot is.

It doesn't matter. See above.

Which they have done anyway, do anyway and will do anyway.

They have nothing to do with motivations and actions of the movie industry, but they are illustrative of a certain mindset that seems to pop up around here.

Not me. And not the millions of people around the world who literally don't give a rat's ass about any of this.
And that's not good.
Do you really think this matters to bigots at all?

I think that it would be interesting to see what types of roles by black actors are and are not nominated and compare it to white actors.

(A brief aside, what latinos, native americans, southeast asians and indians?)

There is an oscar bait formula, and would a Will Smith level performance from say Bradley Cooper have gotten a nod?

Also, it seems like a high level of "dignity" in a role by blacks is what is best for a nod. Morgan Freeman and Sidney Poitier just ooze dignity and poise. Even in Nurse Betty as a criminal Freeman was incredible.

I was thinking about the movie Gone Girl, would a black actress in the lead with the same level performance get a nod? (In this case it may be a bad example, because the pale blonde damsel was part of the reason the story was plausible. Hard to imagine even a beautiful black woman captivating the press like in the movie). Being so completely evil and driven, but as a black woman, what effect would that have on the Oscar voters?
