Context: Vietnamese-Americans tend to be more conservative and more Republican-voting than other Asian-Americans. I've even heard Vietnamese-Americans use coded racist dog whistles that they no doubt got from listening to right wing propaganda.

Now the Vietnamese-American community is learning first hand why it is a dumb idea for non-whites to ever vote Republican for any reason.

Sorry, but I don't have a problem here.

He spent 3 years behind bars. That's not the sort of person the US needs, he's not a citizen, deport.

Normally conviction of any crime that could carry a year behind bars is enough to get you deported.

Uh huh.

And how many criminal Jews did we deport back when they started coming over in numbers?

How many criminal Irish or criminal Italians got deported back in the day?

Why do you bother using this flaccid excuses? Why not just admit that you don't want them here because they're not white and you empathize with white supremacists? What do you get out of all this dancing around?

It's hard to take you seriously. Of course Irish and Italian criminals got deported back in the day.

Why do you continue to assume I'm a racist?

I have no problem with immigrants who obey the law no matter what their skin color. It's just three years behind bars isn't obeying the law. Such people have always "turned their life around"--but rarely does that seem to actually be true.

The guy has all his known relatives in US and his father was american citizen, his mother is american citizen. The only reason he is not formally a US citizen is because he is kinda dumb.
Also US messed up Vietnam in the first place and directly responsible for these people being in US.
You can't send him back.

Meh.... dealing ecstacy isn't a real crime. Crimes should have victims. There's no victim for dealing drugs. And illegal slot machines! Another pseudo-crime.

Driving under the influence, is a way more serious offence IMHO. But is it enough to deport anyone for? I don't think so.

Why not?

Because it falls under the category of screw ups rather than maliciousness. If he gets his life in order after that then I think it's something that can be forgiven. But if it's a pattern, it's something to kick him out for.

The reason is that I don't want to have a society with second class citizens. I don't think that's good for any country. People without hope are dangerous people. USA's 10 year limitted green card system is like asking for trouble. People need to be able to fuck up now again without risking deportation. Life is hard. It's not easy for anyone. That's why people drink and do drugs. I like people with a little ambition in life. Ambition is stressfull. If we come down hard for crimes associated with drugs we're just trying to create a boring grey mass of people not trying that hard.

The old stereotype. Blacks, asians, and hispanics are trained dogs who respond to a democratic dog whistle.

I do not see any difference between conservative and liberal dog whistle followers. Both sides have a Pavlovian conditioning unable to perform independent political rational thinking.

In fact, I would argue, dealing MDMA is doing the work of the gods.
