NFL 2026

I was surprised, I thought it was a great game.

Lick must be riding on Cloud 9.

Patriots did much better than expected, but Maye is definitely at best being a Brett Favre rather than a Tom Brady.

Some NFL trivia.

Seattle is moving up.

AI summariess I did not cross check.

Numerous NFL franchises have appeared in the Super Bowl more than three times. The teams with 4 or more appearances are the New England Patriots (11), Pittsburgh Steelers (8), Dallas Cowboys (8), Denver Broncos (8), San Francisco 49ers (8), Kansas City Chiefs (5+), Miami Dolphins (5), Las Vegas Raiders (5), Washington Commanders (5), Green Bay Packers (5), New York Giants (5), and Buffalo Bills (4)

Teams That Have Never Been to the Super Bowl
Cleveland Browns
Detroit Lions
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars

Well, so much for the superteam going 20-0. Maybe the travel strategy messed them up; old guys like Stafford don’t handle jet lag as well as the young ones.

The Rams DC will be on the hot seat soon if this continues. He somehow schemed Myles Garrett into zero tackles, sacks, quarterback hits, pressures, and assists.

Heard rthis in sports reporting.

AI Overview
For their 2026 season opener in Melbourne, Australia, the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams took completely opposite medical and travel advice regarding jet lag.

San Francisco 49ers: Arrived in Melbourne nine days before the game, following medical and sleep science advice to fully acclimate their circadian rhythms, hydrate, and adjust to the local time zone.

Los Angeles Rams: Arrived just 24 to 28 hours before kickoff, following an unorthodox gamble based on internal data tracking and specialized in-flight sleep arrangements to play the game before severe jet lag could fully set in.

Medical & Sleep Expert Insights

The Acclimatization View: Sleep experts and specialists (like Dr. Meeta Singh and Cheri Mah) generally advocate for the 49ers' early-arrival approach. Medical consensus dictates that an 8,000-mile, multi-time-zone journey causes severe mismatch between the body clock and local time, requiring several days for proper recovery, hydration, and cellular readjustment.

The "Hit-and-Quit-It" Theory: Rams coach Sean McVay and their performance staff bet that a micro-exposure to the time zone wouldn't disrupt players if they maintained their California biological rhythm and slept in-flight. However, this high-profile experiment faced heavy skepticism from independent doctors, and the 49ers ultimately defeated the Rams 27–7 on the field in Melbourne.

The 49ers did a good PR job.
AI Overview
Yes, the San Francisco 49ers spent a full week out in Melbourne meeting fans, making community appearances, and exploring the city ahead of their historic 2026 NFL season opener against the Los Angeles Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Fan Meet-and-Greets & Street Appearances: Current superstars like George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk surprised fans by exploring the city's culture firsthand. They notably stopped by the famous Hosier Lane to pose for photos with local fans in front of a massive 49ers-themed mural

Community and Hospital Visits: Team staff, cheerleaders (the Gold Rush), the mascot Sourdough Sam, and 49ers alumni like Ricky Watters visited local schools for flag football clinics. They also spent a morning meeting with young patients and their families at a local children's hospital.

With such a dominant season opener, Ravens look like this just might be the year they come up short and don't get to the Super Bowl.

Browns were the Browns. Groaning can be heard throughout Northeast Ohio.

If any of you still rank Justin Herbert or Dak Prescott as a top 5 QB, I’d be happy to arrange transportation to your dementia test.

Cardinals beat Chargers wiping out almost a third of all suicide league participants in the first week.

I can do that too, but only with the elderly at the grocery store.

The Patriots have long used their video board to confuse opposing kickers, displaying video of the goal posts behind the actual goal posts, in a way that created an optical illusion for kickers. The Patriots only displayed the video when the opponent’s kicker was lining up for a field goal, and not when their own kicker was on the field. That tactic had always been legal. Now it’s not.

The NFL has informed all teams that their video board display on field goal attempts has to be the same for the home team and the road team, according to ESPN.

Teams can display either a live All-22 angle of the field goal or a static image during field goal attempts, but whatever they choose has to be the same for both teams throughout the game. A memo sent to all 32 teams on September 7 said teams that don’t comply will face league discipline.

The Patriots’ tactic was exposed by former NFL analytics staffer Ryan Paganetti, who posted on social media a series of images showing how the Patriots’ video display at Gillette Stadium was used to confuse opposing kickers. Paganetti said he first noticed it when he worked for the Eagles, and that the Eagles considered doing it, too, but the location of the video boards at Lincoln Financial Field wouldn’t have worked to create the same optical illusion that the Gillette Stadium video boards created.

Dastardly!

The Patriots should be depantsed and paddled at half time.

It appears Patriots are going with the 'good enough offense with very good defense' route to football. Brady is heralded as the GOAT, but it isn't as if the Patriots won their first three Super Bowls with a juggernaut offense. Yes, Maye isn't Brady, but the cliche is defense wins playoff games. And when your defense scores, you are much more likely to win. So while the Patriots have only scored 23 offensive points in two games, they have also only given up 16 points, including against Seattle (yes, they did lose that game). I'm not saying the Pats are champions, just that this appears the route. Definitely a better start than expected. Offense is actually where I was expecting them to be, but the defense is looking very good.

Long season though.

It’s getting weird, right on schedule. QBs dropping, key players ineligible because of off-field criminal allegations, the Browns winning a game with Watson as QB, Mike McDaniel doing to the Chargers what he did to the Dolphins, the Bears score 59 in game 1 and 3 in game 2, and the league is sending the Cowboys and Ravens to play on a field that soccer players have called “the worst we’ve ever played on. ACLs are overrated.

But best of all, the trailer for the Madden movie is out. Nicolas Cage as Madden and Christian Bale as Al Davis could make this the best thanksgiving ever.

Sadly for the three remaining NY Jets fans (Kevin James, Ray Romano, and myself), the Jets have already achieved their allotted one win for the season.
