Two day cares in Germany wanted to ban all pork products in order to not offend Muslims. And yes, that includes gummy bears and other gelatin-containing desserts.

German daycares under police protection after plans to stop serving pork

Plans to no longer serve children pork or gelatin-containing products like gummy bears at two daycare centers in the eastern German city of Leipzig prompted a wave of criticism online and made headlines across the country on Tuesday.

The mass-circulation Bild newspaper first reported about the daycare's proposal, saying the centers decided to make the changes out of consideration to two Muslim children.

"Out of respect for a changing world, only pork-free meals and snacks will be ordered and served starting from July 15," read a letter sent to parents, according to Bild.

Germany is only facing a "changing world" because of their idiotic migration policies that have become a lot more stupider under Angela Merkel.

Can't wait to see how the lefties on here spin this. Remember what they said, "No one is going to submit to the Muslims and change anything! The Muslims will assimilate on their own!" Germans are now assimilating to the Muslims.

Wouldn't be surprised if they put in Sharia law and behead themselves so the Muslims don't have to do it to them. "Nonsense. You sit back, Muslim. I will behead myself! Always think of the Muslims first!"

This cartoon sums it up perfectly.

I'd send my kid with a packed lunch and snack every day of pork meatballs w/bacon, pork scratchings, gelatin lollies, and a pork jerky chaser.

If a parent does not want their child served pork, let the parent explain to their child "you can't have gummies because God said so". But don't force the entire world to abstain because you're delusional.

Who is doing this?

Since their policy seems to be 'we won't serve pork' rather than 'no one gets pork' that probably wouldn't be nearly as confrontational as you'd hope.
But you'd probably still be charged the same price as the other parents whose kids are getting food from the school. I guess it depends on how they wrote the contract for making meals available.

Yeah, that's the first thing that I wondered, if being religiously inoffensive would include Gumi bears.
The Mormon stricture against Gumi Bears was the breaking point in my original departure from the Church. How, oh how can we trust our souls to a god who hates Gumi Bears?

There is no evidence at this time that the daycare facilities in question were asked to stop serving pork products. This was done out of consideration for children. Clearly the daycare facilities did not want those children to feel excluded or different at meal times.

I realize that pork plays a large part in the traditional German diet. So I can understand the brouhaha that this trivial event generated. But any parent who feels that their child is ill-served by this policy or day care facility can remove their child. It certainly does not merit the over the top ugly reaction in the OP.

So is the free market allowed to adjust to the clientele it is supposed to serve or is the free market supposed to shackled to the past and what was acceptable for who used to be served?

Actually, I'm willing to bet it was for the consideration of the day-care providers. If there were two special meals out of however many children's meals every day, than there would be a chance of a screw up, growing more and more likely every day.
Someone, somewhere, is going to get accused of serving a kid a pork-tainted meal at some point.
So just make every meal that they provide consistent with all known religious-based dietary restrictions.

So police were parking patrol cars outside the daycare centers to protect them.... Protect them from whom?

Lunatics.

People who think a business decision made by German businesspeople is a sign of creeping Sharia law and thus justifies violence. People who read 'we're not going to' and see "BANNING!" and look for pitchforks and torches.

Consideration for children!? Don’t want those children to feel excluded?

This is stupendous insanity. The actions and the reasoning.

First off, the imbuing of fragility onto the children is over the top. If you don’t eat pork, guess what; you ARE different. Fine, no problem—we can accommodate; we can offer choices. But no, we aren’t going to deprive those that do enjoy it to cater to the sensibilities that’s likely being heightened by thrusting these feelings of exclusion upon them.

Second off, offending the many to not offend the few is a path not best travelled. While we’re so eager to be so overzealously considerate, we ought not forsake the consideration of the children being affected. I’m not going to stop serving pizza all because a new member of the household don’t eat it. Talk about feeling excluded! Wait until everyone that eats pork is taught why it’s no longer offered. Being nice and considerate of others is commendable, but when it’s also negatively impacting what is an ordinary delight is very off-putting to the many.

Finally, having a good reason for doing something should not automatically be taken as a green light to act. Weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Inwardly synthesize the pros and cons and feel the consequences as if you were in the shoes of all parties. Be cognizant of the political ramifications but be guided more by the impact the decisions have on everyone. Again, it’s good to not make others feel ostracized, but tackle the problem with a backbone and care for everyone and handle individual cases with genuine care.

Yea, my point was how the people who are against this daycare being considerate to their customers also the same people who would accuse the muslim people of being dangerously violent.

Please cite where any of the children or the children's parents were offended. You sound pretty offended... for some inexplicable reason.

"Deprive?" that's a little rich.

They're not taking food away from kids, they're not issuing MREs. They just won't pick certain meals from those that have already been made available. I doubt most of the kids would even notice that they weren't getting pork, unless a grown-up told them. They're still getting dead cow, dead chicken, dead fish, assumedly in a balanced meal, with a dessert.

Where I eat at work, it's a buffet. I choose food from what is available. I don't spent a lot of time thinking about what I WISH was there. There's a good chance that if they stopped serving pork, I would not notice for a year or more. As long as something else was available, and my religion does not require daily ingestion of bacon, it would just not matter to me. I can't imagine it'll matter that much to people in daycare.

Yes, but many people assure me there is a significant difference between being violent FOR Muslamia, and being violent to PREVENT Muslamia... One's rational, one's a literally god-damned superstition.

It’s easy for the owner of a restaurant to remain unenlightened and out of touch with the satisfaction or lack thereof of his clientele when complaints walk out the doors unspoken.

When you stand in front of a class and unjustly berate someone, no word subsequently uttered is not a thought gone unprocessed.

There’s a principle of the matter here that is important.

True that. :D

It’s still a deprivation of choices. You guys are notoriously egregious for pushing the boundaries for words, but the one time I play the word usage to an extreme card, I get called out. I’ll take it. Guilty.

But, i’m stealing that line, “that’s a little rich.”

Oh goodness why did I respond in this thread? I agree with all that.

Feel free. But where does it say that the kids get a choice of meals in the first place so that their choices are 'deprived' now?

From what I remember of meals in first grade, we showed up and there was food and we either said 'Yay!' or we said 'Oh, poopies, that stuff again.' Not a whole lot of choice involved.
