If he knew and kept having sex with people (some stories I've read say he's paid millions to keep it quiet, not sure if that's true) then he's more despicable than his on screen characters and acting skills, and that isn't easy.

That's a good point. I heard this morning that he's paid $10 millioin in hush money to various people over whatever period he knew about his disease. If he had sexual partners over that period whom he didn't inform of his STD, that's a serious fucking issue.

People with HIV can safely have sex with other people, if appropriate precautions are taken.

The truth is that HIV positive people do go on to procreate without transmitting HIV to their partners or children. It takes a lot of precautions and medical intervention to ensure that the virus isn't transmitted but it can be done.

Charlie Sheen has put a lot of time and effort into assuming a role as the blackest of black sheep of Hollywood, the irrepressible bad boy of the USA. It would definitely be in character for his assumed persona to not act responsibly in this aspect of his life. he's pretty much built a temple to irresponsibility out of his public life.

It is, however, nice to note that he was at least that responsible with something as life-altering as being HIV positive.

There is often a presumption that people who contract HIV 'deserved' to do so and that further, they should immediately halt their sex lives once they are positive for HIV.

I know you're being clever and funny and I'm being all preachy and stick in the mud but the truth is that people contract the HIV virus by engaging in perfectly normal adult behavior and they contract HIV every single day.

It's counter productive to pretend that only some people (gay people, people who have sex with many partners and/or prostitutes) contract HIV and not people who are nice and clean like we are and just have a regular amount of regular sex. Whatever the fuck that is.

People contract HIV because they are exposed to the blood or body fluids of someone else who has HIV and because they don't take precautions to prevent being infected before or after the fact. And because sometimes, those precautions fail.

The fact that people refuse to accept that a) one cannot tell by looking if someone is infected and b) some very promiscuous people remain uninfected and c)some extremely virtuous, monogamous and even virginal people contract the virus means that more people are contracting the virus. Not fewer. More.
