AI Slop is everywhere. It is garbage. It is a waste of resources. However, real life and AI slop are becoming more and more difficult to tell apart. So I am starting this thread to help people sort out the stuff that seems like AI Slop, but actually is real.

The Pentagon is tapping Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, defense technology entrepreneur and Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to identify the military capabilities, technologies and weapons the U.S. may need in future wars, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Wednesday.
I know what you are thinking. This has to be AI Slop. Who would be this stupid? What does Elon Musk know about military weaknesses, development of new battlefield methods, or the military in general? Newt Gingrich?! The 83 year old serial adulterer whose claim to fame was targeting a Democrat President with an endless assault of attacks which the 9/11 Commission concluded was part of the reason why the US wasn't able to take care of bin Laden before 9/11?

Who'd put these two weasels in a room together to plot out how America needs to manage future threats?

Pete Hegseth would be. He actually is. It isn't common knowledge, but Hegseth is an idiot. So no, this isn't AI Slop, this is horror porn.

How can we tell the OP is not AL Slop itself?

You know about Starlink in Ukraine, right?
It is internet access. The United States' military capabilities for communication are a "tad" bit better than internet access.
And yet it was Musk and not the US military that provided them with workarounds to Russian electronic infrastructure attacks. The US military, like most countries' militaries, has an institutional bias toward winning the last war instead of the next one. And there's a focus issue too. I'm sure you're right where a full blown war with China over Taiwan is concerned; but if we're talking yet another proxy war then the United States' military's no doubt better capabilities for communication are probably going to involve a lot of civilian contractors to keep the systems up, and those guys are going to pull out when the US pulls out, leaving the Afghan army or whoever our next proxy is, hosed. So I think our military would be foolish not to listen carefully to Musk's insights about what's involved in providing low-cost non-brittle comm support to allies we aren't prepared to fully commit to, which seems to be most of them. Like Kissinger said, it may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal.
