Pelosi: Impeachment Is Moving Forward

And the bullshit flinging is at full power.
Sen. Portman (my emphasis) said:
I have said consistently for the past four months, since the Zelensky transcript was first released, that I believe that some of the President’s actions in this caseincluding asking a foreign country to investigate a potential political opponent and the delay of aid to Ukraine – were wrong and inappropriate. But I do not believe that the President’s actions rise to the level of removing a duly-elected president from office and taking him off the ballot in the middle of an election.
Good stuff there Portman. 'Naughty, but not too naughty.' So if Trump did conspire with the Russians, it'd be okay? Granted, he wasn't even President yet.

The fine senator from Alaska has some high quality bullshit
Sen. Murkowski said:
I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether we need more.

The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.

Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.

It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.

We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.
Doesn't even address the charges.

Sen. Alexander said:
I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the United States Constitution's high bar for an impeachable offense.
So Alexander says, 'naughty' but not 'too naughty'.

And now we are hearing that Trump tried to get Bolton to get in on the Ukraine issue in May 2019.

Hah hah. Now even Murkowski is a no for witnesses. She referenced Warren’s attack on Justice Roberts. Warren is such a piece of garbage. Onward to acquittal!

The Democrats erred in (1) not choosing Amash in some publicly viewable role and (2) not debunking the whole partisan thing in their arguments.

Yesterday, the defense called opposition in the house, bipartisan because that dem flipped to republican. No mention from house managers in response about Amash.

The defense keeps repeating the partisan meme. So does the news.

Nah, the Dems screwed up by failing to impeach for a high crime and misdemeanor. All that witness testimony would do is to prove or disprove a fact in controversy. Even if all facts as alleged by the House Mgrs are presumed true, there’s no impeachable offense. We may not like the conduct, but the remedy is not impeachment/removal. This happens in court all the time.

Trump's misconduct is twice as bad as Nixon's, not that treasonous Russianpublicans care.

Dude, they could have put those in the articles of impeachment. They didn’t. Likely because they couldn’t prove them. But even if they did, mere violation of a statute is not an impeachable/removal offense. If you think otherwise, then Clinton should have been removed. The honest assesment is that both impeachments were just partisan nastiness and an abuse of Congressional power.

Sen. Tim Scott said:
The truth is that you’ve got three firsthand folks who say that there was no quid pro quo, and you have one person who disagrees with that. The question is the weight of the credibility of each version. So you’re going to tell me that Bolton, because people want that to be the conclusion, has more weight than three other individuals. I say that’s absolutely not.
Umm... Senator, that would be zero firsthand folks under oath. And we have the transcript which implies the Quid Quo Pro, and all of that other diplomatic testimony. Sen. Scott would have made an awesome cop.

Sorry, Tom, but your bleeding and bruised sister says her husband didn't beat her. So clearly no crime has been committed.

The traitor Republicans CAN'T call Bolton to the stand because Trump will try to block them. If they did that, it would prove the second article. Their treason against democracy has removed power from Congress and given privileges to the President he should not have. No conservative has standing anymore to talk politics, except Trump's critics.

If current polling holds, then any Democratic nominee will decisively defeat Trump in November. Here's how that's likely to play out:

First off, he'll rage-tweet about the "fake election results," publicly toy with the idea of simply refusing to step down, and privately demand his goon squad...er...staff find a way to actually make that happen.
While this is happening, the administration and their toadies in the Senate will ram through as much lame-duck fuckery as is humanly possible. If Ruth Bader Ginsburg or any other Justice keels over and dies in November, rest assured Moscow Mitch will gleefully make sure Trump's nominee is confirmed immediately.
Then, on January 20th, 2021, whether Trump goes quietly or not, the very same people who wailed that the impeachment was an attempt to undo the 2016 election will immediately begin to work towards removing whomever is sworn in as President.

If the GOP loses the Senate as well, their power to actually do anything will be nullified, but in any case, the "Party of No" will come back with a vengeance. Every single thing the new President does will be an impeachable offense. Every official act by President Sanders will be bemoaned as "socialism." Any appointment made by President Biden will be called a member of the "deep state." Legislation signed by President Warren will be declared unconstitutional. And President Buttigieg? "Well my God sure as hell ain't gonna bless no gay President. He's probably the anti-christ!" And you can bet money that if the Republicans hold onto the Senate, the investigations into President Biden's "corruption" in Ukraine will begin immediately and will go on for about as long as...well...how long did the investigations into Benghazi/Buttery Mails go on? Yeah, like that.

If it is Sanders, or Bloomberg, "the Jews will not replace us" crowd will be at Home Depot the next day stocking up on Tiki Torches. There will be another "unite the right" rally (or several) and unfortunately more people are going to die at the hands of right wing lunatics.

Buckle up, kids. Keep your hands and feet in the ride at all times...it's gonna get crazy.

Well just like Fox News said, "We've never had a President that so forcefully bludgeons the opposition every day. It's unprecedented. He's beating the Dems at their own game. He doesn't play nice."

This is true. Trump has a spine and big brass balls.

Let's think about this logically for a minute. Let's imagine Bernie Sanders did this exact same thing. Do you think all the Bernie Bros. would be screaming for Bernie's impeachment? Of course not. They would most likely be saying stuff like, "Well, even if he did do it, it's not impeachable. He's just trying to investigate corruption. Bernie is a man of the people. Even if it was kind of shady, we shouldn't get rid of the man from office. We love all his policies. His policies are more important than his actions. Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!"

You guys know this is 100% true. Face it, if you already hate Trump with the fury of a thousand suns, of course you're gonna demand he's impeached. And if you are a Trump supporter, you will say he shouldn't be impeached.

No, none of that is true, just imagined in your fantasy land.

That's why the Clinton impeachment was outvoted 200-5 by Republicans and Trump's impeachment was outvoted 200-5 by Democrats.

Clinton deserved censure for his blowjob in the oval office he lied about. Trump deserves to have his head on a pike and bleed from the neck to feed the Tree of Liberty.

That's some huge nationalistic tendencies there. I thought you guys were against borders and flags?

Bear with me for a second here. What if it were true? Let's look at that again:

Let's think about this logically for a minute. Let's imagine Bernie Sanders did this exact same thing. Do you think all the Bernie Bros. would be screaming for Bernie's impeachment? Of course not. They would most likely be saying stuff like, "Well, even if he did do it, it's not impeachable. He's just trying to investigate corruption. Bernie is a man of the people. Even if it were partially true, and President Sanders was revealed to have been conspiring with a foreign power to rig the election. He had a shadow operation secretly working behind the scenes to not just win in 2020, but to undermine a potential Republican opponent in 2024. What leg would the GOP have to stand on?

The answer is none, because they have asserted that a sitting President cannot be charged with any crime, even if their guilt is clear, and that if such a crime were to be uncovered, it would not be enough to justify the removal of the President from office. Bernie could loudly proclaim "yeah, I did what I've been accused of doing, and by the precedent set by my predecessor and his party, there's fuck-all you can do about it."

In such an instance, Halfie would be marching in the streets demanding President Sanders be hanged for treason, without even a tiny little bit of reflection on the fact that the table for such a scenario had been set by his side. Trump supporters are clearly not thinking "if we give Trump this authority, we also give it to the next Democratic President." The thought probably never crossed their addled minds.

‘Holy crap!’ Bolton ‘directly implicated’ Pat Cipollone as a ‘fact witness’ in Trump impeachment trial

John Bolton released another new bombshell in his forthcoming book — and places President Donald Trump’s lead impeachment attorney as a fact witness in the Ukraine extortion plot.

The former national security adviser revealed that Trump asked for his assistance in May to extract damaging information from Ukraine’s government about Joe Biden, and Bolton wrote that White House counsel Pat Cipollone and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney were present in the Oval Office for that conversation, reported the New York Times.
