In an attempt to court a politically active younger demographic, Pepsi may have instead set them off.
A new ad for the soft drink stars Kendall Jenner as a high-fashion model, donning a blonde wig in the midst of a protest. It’s not clear what the protest is supposed to be about — many of the signs read general phrases like “Join the conversation” and “love.”
Beckoned by one of the protesters, Jenner eventually rips off her blonde wig and joins the fray. Grabbing a can of Pepsi, she heads toward one of the grim-faced police officers, and hands him a drink. He accepts and smiles, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

Negativland, "Dispepsia" album. If you have never heard this, give it a listen.

It's a commercial. I am already predisposed to ignoring such media content by fast forwarding, changing the channel, or simply tuning it out to do something else for two minutes. I'm one of those weird people who actually watch the Super Bowl to watch the Super Bowl.

IOW, I could care less, and I am not sure why anyone else in the viewing public is paying enough attention to commercials to become offended.

Pepsi have pulled the ad and have issued some sort of an apology to someone or something. We live in strange times.

I can't imagine how anyone thought this was a good idea, let alone how it made it past the whole advertising campaign process without someone saying "This is going to come off very bad." The ad was titled something like “Live for Now Moments Anthem,” and the whole thing reeks of buying-your-own-bullshit.

"So, we want Millenials to associate Live for Now Moments with Pepsi! But how? Hm, well, Millennials love protesting because it makes them feel alive and in the moment! Maybe we can make them associate Pepsi with the same feeling! Great idea? Who wants lunch?"

This seems relevant:

Ok, it's obvious what the blond will was about given that nearly every woman on FOX News is blond.

But what's the point of giving a Pepsi to a murderer? Are they trying to imply that their product makes cops less inclined to murder citizens?

Pepsi: if you give this to cops, they won't murder you, provided you are a beautiful white woman!

Cripes, this is even dumber than all those "drink our beer and beautiful women will totally bone you" advertisements from the 1980s.

This strikes me as complaining that my drink order is taking way too long as the plane is in a nosedive.

Look, I don't care what your problem is, but if you can't get your shit together and serve me as your ads depict you can, then don't subject me to your bullshit. I don't care about you, your problems, or your momma, and if you are gonna whine about problems arisen under the guise of it being an emergency situation, then don't expect me to have a positive thing to say about your inept abilities to follow through with a damn thing you manipulative bastards are pitching me.

Edited to add: I don't think I actually had a point; I just wanted to come across as being negative :D

Your normal posts are plenty negative already.

That was just a terrible terrible idea. Pepsi represents everything liberal protesters hate. Everything in that video reeks of not getting the demographic they're trying to reach. Well done corporate suits.

Woah, that was spooky ! Life imitating art.

I think the other way around in this case... Late night TV has been pointing out how companies, through their twitter feeds usually, are trying to monopolize on social outrage more and more lately... Pepsi is just the latest, most distributed version.

I think the practice is called "Clapback"... but I can't find the specific clip I was looking for where someone (some late night host) compiled a great list of terrible ones illustrating how companies are trying to profit on tragedy, etc..
