A judge has ordered the jailing of ex-pharmaceutical chief executive Martin "Pharma Bro" Shkreli while he awaits sentencing for securities fraud.

Judge Kiyo Matsumoto said a Facebook post in which Shkreli offered $5,000 for a strand of Hillary Clinton's hair showed he was a danger to the public.

On Wednesday, Judge Matsumoto ruled that Shkreli's post on 4 September - made shortly before Mrs Clinton began a book tour - showed he posed a danger, rejecting arguments his words were protected by US free speech laws.

"This is a solicitation of assault in exchange for money," the judge said. "That is not protected by the First Amendment."

Let the assraping begin. (not wanting to condone rape, but still)

My best guess....
The guy is a diva who doesn't mind risking hatred and prison time, just so long as he can attract a lot of attention to himself.

I say Shkreli's right to use discarded body parts for his Voodoo rituals is protected by his religious freedom.

He may as well do a test run so he can decide whether to serve his sentence or kill himself to show the judge who's boss.

I think he could have gotten off if he pleaded insanity.

Does the judge have ability to do this on her own? Isn't this normally done on a request of a DA?

This is odd... requesting a strand of hair cannot possibly be fairly interpreted as a request to do harm to someone... hair routinely falls out on its own.. there is no implication that the request was for hair to be pulled or cut out... just passively recovered and delivered... as a request to do harm, that is an unreasonable stretch.

regarding the reason people know this guy - his 5,000% hike of the cost of a drug... that is what you get when you assign healthcare the title of commodity. Capitalism at its absolute worst possible application... pay to live... like having to pay your fire department a co-payment before they will come to your house to put out the fire... Those that oppose socialized medicine have no right to complain about this guy at all... not one tiny bit. My response to those hypocrites is "then open your own business and offer it at a more competitive price, if you don't like it... THAT's America, right?"

The DA did request it.

He offered $5000 per hair for anyone to "grab a hair from her". Pulling someone's hair out without permission is assault, so he was soliciting assault.

My guess would be this is not a specific enough incitement to be a crime in its own right. But perhaps there are different standards for bail revocation. Lack of "good behavior" or somesuch.

Yes, you're right... I just read the actual quote and he did (retardedly) actually say "from her head". this would imply a request to assault her... what a dumbass.
