Police officers give kid a beatdown for having a fake ID

In these post desegregation times, has there been a narrowing of how likely white males react to similar arrests--specifically the beginning stages of such arrests compared to how black males react?

Ok, either there is not footage of what happened early in the encounter or it showed him being mellow OR rowdy - which doesn't mean he should have been bloodied.

I hope the footage turns up.

There's a pic and link to the video in the story I linked to in the OP.

He was resisting arrest, right? The video doesn't show the cops hitting him, only trying to restrain him to put on the cuffs. Meh.

There are unknowns here. The article didn't mention his age. If he is underage then he probably did have a fake ID and was arrested for it. If he resisted his arrest then they would have charged him for that even if they didn't press charges for the fake ID.

The video only shows the ending part of the arrest so we don't know if excessive force was used. They certainly weren't excessive during the part I saw. If you're rolling around on concrete its not extraordinary to get bloody nor does it mean someone viciously attacked you. Yelling you go to UVA and your arresting officers are racists doesn't prove you had valid ID or were legal drinking age. However it does indicate he has a combative personality and makes me less likely to believe he complied in the initial confrontation.

Real life isn't like the movies where the hero cop gently and effortlessly uses wrist locks to handcuff the suspect. If the suspect resists it will be a scuffle at the very least with cuts bruises and abrasions.

Regardless, why is it so damn important to make the arrest happen on the spot and start beating them and risking them injury when there is resistance? Warn them that charges of resisting arrest will be added and wait for them to calm the fuck down. If they try to escape, add that to their rap sheet and put them in custody when an opportunity rises. Someone with a fake ID is not a menace to society.

Well if you're going to have drinking age laws you have to enforce them. If the suspect doesn't have valid ID you need some mechanism of identifying him of which arrest and fingerprints is the best option. The fact that the suspect doesn't want to be held accountable for breaking the law should not influence whether or not the police take action to hold the suspect accountable. He shouldn't need to be calmed down in the first place and telling them resisting charges will be added won't help. Most people intuitively know if they resist arrest cops will charge them for it. And how long should police wait until the unknown suspect is ready to be arrested?

Several minutes, not seconds. How is waiting for a better opportunity to make the arrest not holding them accountable for the alleged crime?

Police should give a 3 count and then commence the beatings, obviously.

It depends how long you make them wait. A few minutes is reasonable. I agree the police shouldn't immediately up the agro of the situation. I've seen too many videos of them screaming and barking orders to hapless people. But suspects shouldn't get to decided whether or not they're arrested or identified. And I don''t even support most nanny state laws like the drinking age.

Do you have a serious answer? What are you supposed to do with suspects that won't comply with lawful arrests? Do you have specific techniques in mind? All of the known options ie pepper spray, tazers, nightsticks and grappling have advantages and drawbacks. Police depts don't have enough hostage negotiators with excellent persuasion skills to talk down every numb-nut that doesn't want to be arrested for the stupid things he did that night.

I don't give the police the benefit of the doubt anymore when they claim a citizen was not complying or resisting in order to justify their violence.

I like the reform suggestion that resisting and disobeying arrests be reviewed and confirmed by a superior. Might motivate some officers to be a bit more flexible.
