I didn’t put this in humor because it is not humorous. But wow is it powerful. The person who shared this with me noted that the cartoonist was fired from his newspaper after making it. But wow, it really gets at what half of the country is feeling about the damage this president is inflicting.

Powerful? Not hardly. It’s just a dumb snarky cartoon by a sicko and lapped up by deranged Trump haters. Enjoy.

Don’t you have anything more interesting going on in your life other than obsessing over Trump ?

Meanwhile, in alternate universe 14b, TSwizzle just posted Ben Garrison's cartoon depicting the same thing but with President Obama.

Seriously, after all of the partisan bullshit we had to endure during the Clinton and Obama adminstrations, it really starts to become unbelievable when a conservative says, why are you so 'obsessive'? The United States has never had such a repugnant and unprofessional person at the helm in its history... who just met with Kim Jong Un again to continue their bromance... and the conservatives shrug their shoulders.

Obama knew a guy from the Weather Underground so he was pal'ing around with terrorists. Trump is upselling the dictator of North Korea, a nation that particularly hates the US, and the conservatives shrug? Why so obsessive? It isn't obsession to see Trump for what he is. It was obsession to see Clinton and Obama for what they weren't.

Interesting how carefully they avoid saying, “we did not fire him over this cartoon,” but say many other unrelated words.

This is a false narrative which has emerged carelessly and recklessly on social media," the company said. "In fact, BNI was not even offered this cartoon by Mr. de Adder. The decision to bring back reader favourite Greg Perry was made long before this cartoon, and negotiations had been ongoing for weeks.”

A disgusting cartoon! It uses a personal tragedy of that family to score political, partisan points.

Trump has nothing to do with what happened here.

1. The father decided to cross the border illegally by swimming across Rio Grande. Trump did not make him swim.
2. Migrants dying trying to illegally cross the border is not an uncommon occurrence and long predates the Trump presidency.
3. Contrary what people like ß have claimed, this guy was neither a "refugee" nor a legitimate asylum seeker.
‘I Didn’t Want Them to Go’: Salvadoran Family Grieves for Father and Daughter Who Drowned
NY Times said:
“I didn’t want them to go,” Ms. Ramírez, Mr. Martínez’s mother, said this week in an interview at the small, two-bedroom rowhouse that she shared with her son and his family. “But they didn’t take my advice.”
It remains unclear how the Martínez family intended to argue their case for asylum, or whether they even understood the legal basis for gaining such protection. Mr. Martínez’s wife, Ms. Ávalos, did not respond to requests for an interview.
But Ms. Ramírez repeatedly said that her son and his family were not fleeing persecution or the threat of it — requirements for gaining asylum in the United States.
They migrated “only because of the economic situation,” she said. “Lamentably, the salaries here are very little and they aren’t enough,” she added, speaking softly.

So how is this drowning Trump's fault and not the fault of decisions made by the parents?
The parents decided to undertake the journey north for economic reasons, not fear for their lives, and when they got to the border they decided not to wait but tried to cross the border illegally by risking crossing the Rio Grande?

Stay on topic. He may be (and probably is) the most repugnant and unprofessional person at the helm of our country, and his handling of foreign policy is infantile, but that still does not make him responsible for illegal migrants drowning trying to cross the Rio Grande. Migrants have agency, but that entails also having responsibility for their actions.

As usual, a disgusting post! It uses a personal tragedy of that family to score cheap political points. Meanwhile, the original Canadian cartoon has absolutely nothing to do with the Democratic Party but is instead juxtaposing Hair Furor's interests with his neglect. When stuff happens on his watch, he is as accountable as George W Bush was, but you don't care.

I don’t think there IS anything more important than defeating Trump and reclaiming our values and principles.

Jimmy absolutely was on topic, which is the o so apt political cartoon. So sorry your reflexive opposition to some posters has led you astray. Try to keep on topic.

Trump does not merely exhibit indifference to the plight of those desperate to escape horrific conditions in their home countries, he is absolutely hostile towards those to whom our country should be offering compassion and who desperately need our help. Trump owns this—and so do we all for allowing his repugnant reign to continue.

Trump does not merely exhibit indifference to the plight of those desperate to escape horrific conditions in their home countries,
Sorry, living in a two bedroom house with your mother while working at a pizzeria is not a "horrific condition" that forces you to risk your life to "escape". Plenty of people in the US have similar jobs/living arrangements.

he is absolutely hostile towards those to whom our country should be offering compassion and who desperately need our help. Trump owns this—and so do we all for allowing his repugnant reign to continue.
US cannot take in all the economic migrants from all the third world countries. Now it's not just Central Americans, but also mass migrants from Central Africa are increasingly showing up at the border.
Hundreds Of Migrants From Central Africa Cross Southern U.S. Border To Seek Asylum

Should we open our borders and just wave them all through? Because that's the only thing Trump could have done to prevent this Oscar guy from entering US illegally by swimming across Rio Grande. Oscar already applied for asylum (however fraudulently he did so) but he was too impatient and decided to enter illegally - perhaps he suspected he would be denied since he had no grounds for asylum. In any case, he made the decision to risk drowning, not Trump. So why is the Left so reluctant to acknowledge his responsibility?

You don’t seem to get the point of the cartoon then, as it doesn’t blame Trump for their deaths. It plays on his (and generally people like you) indifference to the plight of those knocking on our doors, asking desperately for asylum.

What is disgusting are right-wingers that pretend they give a darn about that father and daughter, when in general they are actually thinking ‘they were asking for it’.

I think it does.

It plays on his (and generally people like you) indifference to the plight of those knocking on our doors, asking desperately for asylum.
Do you let everybody move into your house who knocks at your door? And how many would be knocking if word spread around you let random people live in your house?
Asylum is for people being persecuted in their countries of origin. Not for people who want to make money to build themselves a bigger house in their country of origin, like Oscar wanted to do.
It is tragic what happened to him, but what is disgusting is that the open borders crowd is trying to make political hay out of these deaths in the same way the open borders crowd used the tragic death (also accompanied by an infamous photo) of Syrian boy Alan Kurdi to open the borders of EU to millions of mass migrants, most of them not refugees or legitimate asylum seekers.

What is disgusting are right-wingers that pretend they give a darn about that father and daughter,
And left-wingers do? All they care about is that they can use it to push open borders. And blame Trump of course.

when in general they are actually thinking ‘they were asking for it’.

The little girl definitely wasn't asking for it. But the father is old enough to know better. He did not deserve death, but his (and his daughter's) deaths are on his head.

I think it does.
Really, that is your problem. You can’t expect us to hand bold your way to understand straightforward political cartoons.

Do you let everybody move into your house who knocks at your door?
No, but my home isn’t a country which has seen its population increase notably without much issue. If population growth like that happened in my home, it’d get awfully crowded.
And how many would be knocking if word spread around you let random people live in your house?
They need to be okay with a vegetarian diet, so probably not too many.
Asylum is for people being persecuted in their countries of origin.
Asylum has been provided to people from these nations before. I’m sorry you have a problem with that.

Not for people who want to make money to build themselves a bigger house in their country of origin, like Oscar wanted to do.
It is tragic what happened to him, but what is disgusting is that the open borders crowd...
Is a strawman.

What is disgusting are right-wingers that pretend they give a darn about that father and daughter,
And left-wingers do? All they care about is that they can use it to push open borders. And blame Trump of course.
Interesting, because the whole thing haunts me. I’m not using it to extend strawman arguments about people I disagree with.

The little girl definitely wasn't asking for it. But the father is old enough to know better. He did not deserve death, but his (and his daughter's) deaths are on his head.
Yeah, derec style empathy.

Note to all simpletons:

A nation state is NOT like a house.

A national budget is NOT like a household budget. (Unless you currently issue your own internationally traded currency).

Immigration is NOTHING LIKE people coming to live in your home. (Unless you currently share your home with a few million complete strangers).

Grow up; Learn something (anything!) before opining on it; Stop trying to use simple analogies to comprehend complex systems. Not only is this hurting YOU, it is hurting lots of other people who are affected by the dumb policies your dumb analogies engender.

Reality is NOT simple. Wishing it were is stupid; Pretending it is is stupider. Imagining that your simple responses are helpful is stupidest of all.

If you have a really simple analogy for a controversial subject that will help everyone to understand why your obvious and easy answers are clearly right, do the world a favour, and FUCK OFF. You are not sufficiently mature to discuss politics with the grownups. If the issue really is that simple, then it's not controversial, and your input is unnecessary. If the issue really isn't that simple, then that's likely the reason why it is controversial, and your simplistic infantile shit is not fucking helping.

I think it does.

I think that's your guilt talking.

Do you let everybody move into your house who knocks at your door? And how many would be knocking if word spread around you let random people live in your house?
Asylum is for people being persecuted in their countries of origin. Not for people who want to make money to build themselves a bigger house in their country of origin, like Oscar wanted to do.

Oscar? Friend of yours? No, I don't think so. Quit this disgusting habit you have of belittling people you don't know by using their familiar name.

Really. Do you recognize these words:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

As the child of immigrants (I believe) they should hold special meaning to you. How shameful that you seek to deny people the opportunity that you have by virtue of your parents arriving here.

What is disgusting are right-wingers that pretend they give a darn about that father and daughter,
And left-wingers do? All they care about is that they can use it to push open borders. And blame Trump of course.

Why do they want to push open borders, Derec?

when in general they are actually thinking ‘they were asking for it’.

The little girl definitely wasn't asking for it. But the father is old enough to know better. He did not deserve death, but his (and his daughter's) deaths are on his head.

Do you not think how desperate he must have been to try to cross the river with his tiny daughter? I can only imagine how difficult a decision it must have been and how desperate he must have been.

I think it does.
Then you don’t get it. It plays on his utter indifference to the lives of poor people. America’s poor, the poor of other nations, his own supporter among the poor and, as well, the asylum seekers who are not just poor but also persecuted. All of them. His overall callous disregard for humanity.

That’s what it is about, that’s what it speaks to.

Do you let everybody move into your house who knocks at your door? And how many would be knocking if word spread around you let random people live in your house?
Well, what are we talking here, in numbers? There are about 4.9 million unauthorized immigrants from Mexico currently in America - and the current US population is 327 million. So you are asking if I would be willing to increase the population of my house by 1.5%?

By astonishing coincidence, I already have. The neighbor’s adult step-daughter needed a place to live because she was breaking up with her boyfriend and was pregnant. She is a stranger to me. She lived with us for a year, increasing my household size by 30%. After she left, we took in the child of another friend. This is not hard for us, as our living situation is a strong metaphor for the country as a whole; we are 3.5 people living in a 4 bedroom house with a two-bedroom guest house on 80 acres of land.

America can easily handle this.

Although, as you know, we (America) don’t even need to. If we had a decent work visa program, half of those people would love to continue to call their original country home while they pick our vegetables for pittance. As exploitative as some people feel that is, many of those workers would be happy to do it.

Besides, this country did exactly that when my and your ancestors showed up and you don’t seem to be rushing back to where you belong. What gives?

I think your country lost your alleged values and principles a long time ago and they're not coming back.
