President of Haiti killed

The whole thing seems stupid. These mercenaries apparently didn’t have an exit plan; so was this a quixotic coup attempt by the two Haitians? The Colombians were ex-military, and a drug cartel hit in Haiti doesn’t make sense.

This is confusing & it's not one of those look for who benefits to find the guilty party moment for me.

I'm really not sure who does benefit, unless it's Joseph himself. In which case, we'll never hear the truth one way or another and even what's been presented by the police would be legitimately in question...

Haiti police say 26 Colombians, two US-Haitians took part in Jovenel Moïse assassination

This seems unexpected. If I had to guess, I'd start thinking mercenaries, but I know next to nothing. Anyone have any insight?
My guess Colombian drug cartels.

But why? I think mercenaries is a more likely answer.

I suppose the cartels could have hired mercenaries. I've heard a different conspiracy theory, but it is even less likely.

Heh.

Prominent Florida doctor tied to assassination of Haitian president

Two of them — James Solages, 35, and Joseph Vincent, 55 — told authorities during questioning that the assassination was part of a plot to install Sanon as president of the Caribbean nation, sources told the outlet.

Haiti interim prime minister Joseph set to step down this week

Haiti foreign ministry senior official Israel Jacky Cantave said that Joseph took charge following Moise's assassination to help ensure continuity of state but would hand over power to Henry now that there is a consensus on the future of the country and protests have calmed.

Cantave said that Haiti's Council of Ministers would meet on Monday and that if all goes well, Joseph could hand over power to Henry in a ceremony on Tuesday

....

Henry told Reuters on July 9 that he considered Joseph to be not interim prime minister but a foreign minister who had taken on the office.

"My installation should be done as soon as possible. I'm working on the formation of a government, I am consulting, and I should speed up my consultations," he said in the interview.

I suspect this decision has everything to do with the US delegation that was going around interviewing claimants all last week, and was scheduled to make a recommendation to President Biden over the weekend.

It's not the most democratic choice, but it is probably the most stability-minded choice. Henry has, at least, promised to make haste in forming a new government. We shall see.
