A priest whose secret past as a gay porn star was exposed when his x-rated movies were revived on the internet has refused to resign. Scenes from Pastor Jose Santiago's porno past have been viewed by tens of thousands in Puerto Rico after they were posted on social network sites. Father Jose, 33 - - says he gave up porn and being gay after being called by God seven years ago. He told local media in San Juan: "In those days I was gay and participated in homosexual activities, but God touched me, God transformed me,

The fact that this is an issue has always struck me as the weirdest thing about Christainity. Even when i was a Christain i found it odd.

The main POINT of Christainity, as i understood it, was redemption. If you were a sinner, you could get God's help and not be a sinner. You could STOP sinning, or sinful ways.

Change was possible and encouraged and, i thought, should be welcomed.

But too many of my peers were forbidden to watch a certain TV show. Not because there was any nudity in the TV show, but because the actress had once been naked in Playboy, or nude in a porno, or topless in an R rated movie. The fact that they were no longer doing this wasn't important, they had once done such things and no redemption was afforded them.

It continued as i grew up. My cousins can't watch movies or tv shows with Tracey Lords in them because of stuff she doesn't do any more and certainly didn't do on network television.

People protested the Pussycat Dolls because they used to be strippers, and it was feared that girls listening to their music would somehow pick up stripper cooties or something.

I don't honestly believe that this priest can just choose to stop being gay, but I do believe he can choose to stop doing porno. You'd think with all the Christain performers who claim to have 'come out of witchcraft' or 'come out of role playing' or atheism, or 70's sexual lifestyles, or any other evil franchise, wouldn't it be expected that people would welcome Jose as a success story, not someone with a lethal past?

I think the problem stems from the fact he is Catholic. Priests are supposed to pass judgment on others, hence the confessional.

And of course, you can't pass judgement unless you yourself are sinless.

They're having problems with a sinful man who is passing judgement on others.

Now if the Catholics lived and just let live, this wouldn't be an issue.

Not a priest, a pastor of the "come get your miracle for a price your faith" kind.

The difference is a priest transforms bread into flesh that only looks like bread so you won't go all icky "oh drat, I'm a cannibal"; and a pastor preaches without that pagan stuff because he stages miracles with people without diagnoses from non-pentecostal medics with licenses.

Mammon is very good at changing your orientation. At least before sundown when you sneak out to have sex with your meth dealer.

Then you don't understand Christianity.

Jesus forgave me for my sins, but he doesn't forgive anyone else because everyone else (unlike me) is evil and will/should burn in Hell for eternity. If I am trying to convert you to my denomination, then we have a temporary case where the forgiveness of Jesus extends to people other than myself. Otherwise, it's just me who is forgiven, and the rest of you are horrible sinners who deserve to be tortured forever.

Ah, well. If someone had explained it, i might not have left. I kept confusing the lessons they taught with the religion they were practicing.

Should have read more Mark Twain, i guess.

Why aren't evangelicals demanding that their pastors take a sabbatical and do a gay porn feature? It ought to be a job requirement. (The straight, married pastors anyway.) That would prove for all time that sexuality is a chosen lifestyle and therefore God, etc., blah, blah, blah. Plus, they could sneak some Bible verses into the money shots, you would think.
