Punching "nazi" not working out so well for nazi puncher.

It's not the radical left uncritically equating conservatives with nazis.

Of course they are. But I'd like to hear you elaborate on your response. Perhaps I misspoke, or was too pat.
Wasn't one person involved in punching a conservative artist (is there such a thing?). One person =/ the left or radical left or leftists. And I don't anyone here suggests the victim was a Nazi.

OK. Good point. I think you meant "activist"?

Totally shameful, however noble he believes himself to be.

Perhaps so, but victimless crimes are still victimless crimes and there's only a certain level anyone should be working themselves up to over them.

How is this a victimless crime? Or is this a bit of Tom Sawyer humor that's flown over my head?

Well, if the only victim is a Nazi, there's not a fundamental difference between that and there being no victim at all.

It's like if you punch a department store mannequin. Sure, people could be very justified in saying "Hey, that dude just punched a mannequin. That seems to be a bit of a dick move", but it's not like any human beings were hurt by the action. Similarly, if the only human being who was hurt was a Nazi kind of human being, that's just the same as no human beings at all being hurt.

I'm not sure this guy's facts are entirely accurate, but it's fair to say that if Greenberg had followed this guide he might not be facing these felony charges now.

I bring this up largely as a public service because we have some people who seem to get giddy about punching nazis here.

And if you can't punch nazis at Berkeley, it could be even worse somewhere else.

Are you under the impression that people who think Nazis should be punched would give a shit if they got arrested for doing it?

Well, since he's hired a lawyer and plead not guilty to the felony charges I'm going to assume he would prefer not to be charged with felonies.

It does seem like a rational conclusion to come to based on his actions.

The man cold-cocked isn't a nazi.

Is it okay now to brutally assault conservatives?

By calling him a "Nazi" he's been sufficiently depersonalized, deinvididualized, dehumanized and demonized to make it socially acceptable to slam your fist into his face. Note how we're talking about punching "a nazi" instead of punching [instert name here] for saying or doing X.

You unfairly leapt from A to B there. dismal's OP is in reference to a thread about the morality of specifically punching Nazis.

Also, although the answer might be somewhat more nuanced than simply punching a nazi.

Yes. ;)

I take the "Yes" to mean that it's okay to punch conservatives. Perhaps I am mistaken.

In any case, please let me know when it becomes okay to punch moderates. I'll make sure to wear a hockey mask when I go outside, lest I encounter some knuckle dragging ape who values his fists more than his capacity to reason (presuming he has any).

The only person who depersonalized the victim was dismal. No one else in this thread or the linked article referred to the victim as a Nazi or a "nazi".
