I am trying to figure out why some people seem to dwell in centuries old thinking.

What other kind of thinking is there? We've only been doing it for a few tens of centuries. And rapid change is very rare within that span - the exception, not the rule.

The ability to maintain centuries old thinking has almost always been a good survival strategy for humans, and the rise of civilisations founded on such thinking has not changed that fact - indeed, it has reinforced it.

Telling the MAGAts in the Bible Belt that their 420 year old book (based on stories between 6000 and 2000 years old) is a work of fiction, remains a poor survival option to this day.
