For some time, gun rights activists have trashed the city of Chicago for trying to combat gun violence. They point to their often Democratic leaders in their critiques, saying that it is their liberal policies that brings on the violence.

That argument might now be obsolete as a new city, Ocala, Florida now leads the nation in gun incidents. Not only is Florida a GOP led state, with Republican Ron DeSantis serving as the state’s Governor, but Ocala also has a four-term elected Republican mayor heading up the city’s local government.

Beyond that, it is also worth noting that at least half of the top 10 cities in the above list are located in “red states.” That kind of diminishes the argument about Chicago and shows that gun violence can rear its ugly head in any state, any city, and anywhere in America as long as we do nothing to curb it.

It does seem strange. I looked up Ocala, Florida on Wikipedia and found the following:

1. "Although a small majority of the city's registered voters are Democrats,[11] Ocala voters have elected many Republicans to office. In the 2008 presidential election, John McCain carried both the city and the county, the latter by a landslide, although Florida as a whole voted for Democrat Barack Obama by a narrow margin" John McCain was the biggest RINO there ever was. Most conservatives say you could have called him a democrat.

2. Biggest employers of the community are all government institutions or medical services. No private industry to be found except for 981 people working for Lockheed. Those are really government jobs anyway because they are direct support for our government military complex. There really is no private industry at all except for Wall Mart. So most of the population is probably very very poor.

The people might vote red but they are not acting like typical republicans or librarians for some reason. Furthermore, even if this really is a GOP run community with GOP values it is still the only one in your entire list having a GOP mayor. It is an unusual case for some reason. If you fall off of a 32 story building and happen to survive, does that mean you would survive the fall every time?

Maybe you just need to re-evaluate your preconception of "typical republicans or librarians.[sic]"

What is the definition of a gun incident used n the survey?
How does that differ to death or injury?

Was this the first time that Ocala has 'won' this survey?

All this and more can be learned by clicking the link.

Yes, "Clicking the Link" is no longer viewed negatively in society. It allows you to read more than just the post... it allows you to discover new truths and evidence by reading the source material!

This is a confusing remark. How would doing this help in derailing the conversation away from facts which are uncomfortable for a person by their feigning ignorance about those facts?

Ocala not Florida City. The subject is misleading.

The article was very sparse on detail it seems.
Lots of effort to trying to link the mayor to the KKK and some confederate history groups but precious little else.

There was a link to the study in the link. Just one more click away from joyous enlightenment.

Good question. Also, the graphic says "major cities" and yet Ocala has ~60k people. Hardly a major city. Was the study cherry picked to produce a result that ZiprHead was likely to post here in all caps?

Just to note that I didn't choose the all-caps. I just copied and pasted the headline from the article, which is how I usually post new threads.

Oh look, it is another person that apparently has the where-with-all to click "post" to share their opinion, but utterly powerless to click a link in an OP to answer their own questions regarding the OP.

I have never seen a gun be violent in any way. I've seen people be violent in many ways.
I do not believe in gun violence. I do believe in people violence and the novel and creative ways in which they are able to be violent, though.

It is a shame that there is all this consequential murder, but hey... boys will be boys. And the 2nd Amendment protects us from a $600 billion a year funded military tyranny.

Could that be why gun control advocates want background checks on people, want checks on how and where people can carry guns.

Yes, I have never heard anyone advocate for background checks on guns. But that might not be a bad idea if it involved tracking their ownership.

Yes, registering guns is a requirement on people.

I hope so.

Looking at the article I could not see that link. Would it be blocked outside the USA?
