Rice family lawyers request DOJ investigation into conduct of prosecutor's office

Generally, the prosecution has to be able to prove that there was intention to murder the kid. That is a very high bar.

This killing was the result of immaturity, lack of professional skill/talent, and flat out tactical stupidity. He never should have been on a Police force to begin with because something like this will happen when you put idiots on the police force. Tamir Rice committed no criminal act, and managed to get killed anyway. He gets shot, and is bleeding out... with his sister put in the back of the police car and the officers show no interest in finding out he was unarmed... nor see to his care. Fuck! There was just too much wrong with this.

His death was so preventable, it is painful to think there is almost no recourse for the idiocy that led to his killing.

All that, plus deliberate modification of a pellet gun in order for it to resemble a real firearm more closely.

I think removing the orange tip was a crime. It certainly is now in Ohio, but I am not sure what the law read in 2014.

A lot of wrong, yes, and on multiple sides. But as you said, no evidence of criminal intent.

Teach your kids not to play with replica firearms. Especially if they have a height/build in the 99th percentile for their age.
And yes, have better hiring and training practices in the police departments.
