I don't believe in the death penalty. I don't believe in state sanctioned murder and I don't believe that the state only convicts guilty people.
That being said, that does not mean I don't think there are people who deserve a killing. Dylann Roof deserves a killing. He did with malice of forethought murder nine people who were in the midst trying to reason with him and praying FOR HIM!
And when the state of SC makes a corpse of Brother Dylann, I will not weep, I will not moan. At least not for him. Like I said, he deserves a killing.
But the DP doesn't stop with the Dylann Roofs of the world and every execution of a DR makes it just that much easier to accept the death of the next inmate on death row, even if he or she has been wrongfully convicted.
And each execution, be the inmate guilty or innocent, send the message that it is OK for the state to kill its citizens, so long as the proper paperwork is filled out and proper procedures followed. I believe this is why we have so many police shootings of unarmed people. Because we have surrendered the determination of right to say who lives and who dies to the state.
So Dylann Roof will die at the leisure of the Governor of SC and the rest of us will go on living until those of us who come against the power of the State, don't.
