So earlier today, there was an exchange that happened in which Drumpf challenged Sanders to a debate. Sanders readily accepted. Of course, details need to be solidified, plans need to be made. The whole thing might just evaporate.

But there's a good chance that this thing is going to happen, and I'm expecting a shitshow. This whole election cycle has been ridiculous, between Hillary being Hillary, Drumpf being Drumpf. Now this.

I honestly don't know what to say or how to feel.

What do Hillary supporters think of this?

I think it's a good idea. Get the whole "Trump is a second choice for Sanders' supporters" thing out of the way. Also, anything that has Trump speak is a positive in undercutting support for Trump.

It cannot have happened, because, as we've been told over and over, Bernie doesn't sell out.

How is it selling out to agree to a debate?

It's not? It's acceptable to use the other party as an ally in a primary? Vote for me, the Repugs want you to?

Maybe each side should just have the opposition select the candidate.

Not really selling out. It's more Trump agreeing to take Hillary's place in the debate she reneged on.

Maybe my view is idiosyncratic, but I think it's cheap of Bernie to use Trump against HRC. The parties select their respective candidates, and the nominees debate. If Bernie can't convince Dems he's their man, than he's not.

Cheap like getting DNC brass to deprive Bernie of a access to voter rolls during the primaries for whistleblowing on the voter roll security? Or arranging debates so that they wouldn't air when anyone would be around to watch them? Perhaps lying about her civil rights record? Or Bernie's?

If anything, it's karma.

Sounds like you're reading too much into it.

This is very very tricky, and extremely unconventional. Playing with Trump is like playing with fire. Also, what is Sanders' thoughts behind this?

It sounds like a trap. This debate should not happen.

Probably Sanders is thinking that he might end up running against Trump, so why not start the debates now, kind of thing.

Apparently, the Trump people are treating it as a joke.

Well, of course they're treating it as a joke. It is a joke. It's being done as a way to undercut Clinton and laugh at her. Trump doesn't have two reasons for this.

Sanders, on the other hand, can use as a way to undercut Clinton and help elect Trump or as a way to distance himself from Trump in a very public way for his supporters.

Trump's Condition For Debating Sanders: Raising Money For Women's Health

My FAVORITE comments on the possible Sanders-Trump debate from the article at TPM:

If Bernie's smart he'll say, "Sure, Planned Parenthood.

Ooooh yes! Thank dog at least Trump is above pandering.

I think this is a fabulous idea as long as both men agree to do this entire debate while lying on a table with their feet in stirrups.
Am I right, ladies?

I second this.

edit: as long as they are not naked from the waist down.

Cheaper. The DNC aren't enlisting the Repubs.

Keep it in the family.
