Saudi Arabia sentences a man to 10 years in jail and 2,000 lashes for being an atheist

He's lucky to be alive. If I were an atheist in Saudi Arabia I'd get the hell out before renouncing Islam.

That's not so bad. After the first 800 lashes, you barely notice the next 1200. It's a bit of a doddle, really. The guy's actually kind of lucky because he could have been stabbed instead.

Plus let's not forget Christian countries do this too.

Not sure how the first two posters missed this point.

Saudi Arabia sentences a man to 10 years in jail and 2,000 lashes for being an atheist

America’s biggest Islamic ally in the middle east – Saudi Arabia -has sentenced a man to ten years in prison and 2,000 lashes for expressing his atheism on Twitter.

This is proof that Saudi Arabia has made great advances in its human rights
After all a few years ago this was a death penalty.
Now its a mere 10 years jail and a couple of thousand lashes

Don't forget to blame the Crusades and the Sykes Picot Agreement. And remember criticizing Saudi Arabia is RACIST! RACIST! RACIST!

Criticizing barbaric political practices masquerading as religious practices, is not racist.

Nobody can mention a single human-rights violation without also mentioning all other human-rights violations in the same breath?

Sheesh, all these rules.

You forgot to mention the rule that it's illegal in Atlanta to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole. If you're going to complain about silly rules, don't just cherry pick the ones you don't like and ignore all the rest.

I don't make the rules.

I just showed up in this thread to point this out when the usual people who point these things out failed to do their self-appointed jobs of reminding us Christians do/did it too.

So someone that you don't like because he does something you don't like failed to do the thing you don't like.

And that bothers you?

I never said I don't like someone.

Then I'm afraid your wry back-handed descriptions ("the usual people", "their self-appointed jobs") are too subtle for me.

I'm just a simple country boy, and have no interest in anyone being punished for expressing their religious views.
