"After meeting Judge Kavanaugh and reviewing his record, I have decided to support his nomination," Paul said in a statement.

...

"I have expressed my concern over Judge Kavanaugh's record on warrantless bulk collection of data and how that might apply to very important privacy cases before the Supreme Court," Paul said on Monday.

...

He added he hoped Kavanaugh would be "more open" to protections on digital records and property in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that found, in most cases, law enforcement has to obtain a warrant in order to search and seize long-term cell phone records that would show a person's location.

"Of course, my vote is not a single-issue vote, and much of my reading and conversation has been in trying to figure out exactly how good Judge Kavanaugh will be on other issues before the Court," Paul added.

Republican "moderates" and so-called libertarians are all falling in line. It will happen.

The system has been so screwed up that trying to speak intelligently and coherently in the Republican party gets you thrown out of office.

A person that runs as a Republican sells a little of their soul.

If they want to win.

Do Libertarians believe that some have a right to dictate over others?

A natural right?

That is the failing of libertarianism. It has this remarkably naive idea that people can be trusted if left to their own devices. It ignores about 230 years of history in our nation that led us to this point. The bank panics, depressions, violence, work place deaths, discrimination.

It is a fundamentalist religion.

The worship of unfettered capitalism for the sake of unfettered capitalism.

The hell with people.

Ayn Rand didn't like other people very much.

Thus her philosophy based on an unwavering focus on the self.

Capitalism with it's focus on the self to the point of allowing dictatorship was perfect for her mentality.

Rand Paul has explicitly denied being a libertarian.

It may shock you to find this out, but being related doesn't mean they're the same person.

From an interview with Hannity

PAUL: It depends what people mean by it. I use the term constitutional conservative, but also used the term libertarian conservative...
.........
So, really the conservative term really, and maybe has to be specified more, either libertarian conservative or constitutional conservative. But I accept all of those terms if they mean they believe in limited government and more individual liberty.

So while not claiming to be a full on Libertarian, he doesn't seem to be denying being libertarian here.

He didn't outright deny it there, but he didn't embrace it. If you look a little farther...

Stop Calling Rand Paul a Libertarian

“They thought all along that they could call me a libertarian and hang that label around my neck like an albatross,” Rand Paul said in 2010 during his Republican primary campaign for US Senate, “but I’m not a libertarian.”

Paul prevailed, beating GOP establishment favorite Trey Grayson in the Republican primary and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway in the general election. Now he’s preparing a 2016 presidential campaign and everyone, Paul included, seems to want to forget that disclaimer.

It also ignores that people, when left to choose, reject libertarianism. We know this because there are no libertarian states that last very long (if, at all).

And Jason Harvestdancer is correct - Rand Paul is not a libertarian: he is a conservolibertarian like his daddy.

Conservative: A word people hide behind when they want to run as a Republican.

It means absolutely nothing.

It stands for absolutely nothing.

It used to mean limitations on the government in overseas adventures and safe investments that grew slowly because of oversight.

He's a conservative, he said so. Make up words to describe him, or read what he has said about himself.
Self-descriptions can be misleading. Loren Pechtel has described himself as a moderate libertarian. I think of myself as a left of center but I am usually described here as a radical leftist, radical feminist, leftists, and other descriptors.

The political spectrum shifted drastically to the right because of Bill Clinton.

Clinton sat down in the middle of what had been called moderate Republicans and took their space. This shifted the entire Republican party to the right.

This led to the insane neo-Conservatives taking power and the insanity in Iraq and now to Trump.

This is not a joking matter.

That quote is from 2010 during a campaign.

The quote from Hannity that marc posted was from 2013.

BTW, "libertarian conservative" sounds very similar to a phrase you so vehemently object to here.

IOW, he is a libertarian when courting libertarians, but "not a libertarian" when the label is being used to critique him.
