SHOCKING: Libertarian will support right-wing judicial nominee crammed down your throat

...libertarian conservative...

Be careful using those words in close proximity around these parts or you run the danger of someone trying to negative rep you to hell and back, ironically trying to silence your free speech.

He's a conservative, he said so. Make up words to describe him, or read what he has said about himself.

He said he's a "libertarian conservative." He did not say any old conservative. If you asked if he's an authoritarian conservative, he'd say no. Even though as a libertarian conservative, he will vote with Donald Trump who like Simba just can't wait to be king.

Indeed! Having been to that particular hell and back myself though, I must say that it left me none the worse for wear. :)
In fact, it's good for a grin, depending on what the trigger was - it's funny to see the self righteous indignation of the neo-con on full display. :D

Libertarians are modern day western communists. By that I mean they never shut up about the values of their ideology, but are strangely reticent as to why such a form of government has never been successful. And then, when confronted with the hypocrisy of libertarian politicians, the No True Scotsman argument is all they have. Libertarianism doesn't work for the same reason jedi-ism doesn't work. Neither have a chance in hell of existing in the real world.

Like all religions it requires faith.

It also requires defining words as they choose.

Words like "freedom".

Free to be a tool of another or starve, for most, is what they call freedom.

And demand that is as good as it can possibly get, for most.

Well, anyway, Rand Paul is going to vote for him.

Other so-called moderate Republicans are caving too.

Bye bye democracy.

Self-descriptions can be misleading.

That's an excuse to ignore what he has explicitly said. He said he is not a libertarian, he said he is a conservative.
Reality is an excellent reason to ignore a self-description. Do you really agree Loren Pechtel is a moderate libertarian?

Since he has explicitly denied being a libertarian, and has described himself as a conservative, we can now conclude that "libertarian conservative" means "conservative" and has nothing to do with libertarianism in any way.

Do you describe yourself as rational and coherent?

If someone says they are a "libertarian conservative" that means they are a conservolibertarian ( a conservative with libertarian tendencies or leanings).

In any event, Rand Paul continues to disappoint the rational and the coherent electorate.

Here's a libertarian from Cato.org:
https://www.cato.org/publications/c...ase-brett-kavanaughs-supreme-court-nomination

As a group they are showing concern over the 4th amendment but willing to cave eventually just like Rand Paul. They also like that he doesn't like regulations for corporations.

Just like conservatives they aren't interested that there was a nomination that got ignored on our way down the toilet.

The basic problem is the basic nature of politics. A libertarian doesn't support pork for anyone and thus won't get any big campaign contributions.

I think what you mean is that Libertarianism is an attribute a politician can have, it shouldn't be the sole foundation of their beliefs. Libertarianism as a philosophy has been shown to be uberly naive and completely wrong with 230 years of American history for a large society.

No, the basic problem is the nature of human beings. We are social animals. Collective activity naturally arose out of our experiences and needs. At its core, libertarianism runs counter to all of that.

The problem is a libertarian is not going to do the sorts of things that attract large campaign donors. Such large donors are looking for a benefit and won't be making the contributions otherwise.

If someone says they are a "libertarian conservative" that means they are a conservolibertarian ( a conservative with libertarian tendencies or leanings).

Why wouldn't it mean that they're libertarians with some conservative tendencies or leanings?
According to the Pope of Libertarianism that means they are not libertarians.

Since when are you religious? ;)

Anyway, Libertarian/Authoritarian is orthogonal to Progressive/Conservative.
