So, The Super Bowl Halftime Show

This is why I don't understand American sports. The two biggest things talked about is the intermission and the fucking ads. Who or what is playing is almost incidental.

Two Latinas performed in the Halftime Show, so that was a big deal for Latinos and stupid white people. If U2 performed, not much talk. But yeah, the ads... its a thing.

It's not just American sports but professional sports in general. Professional sports is very much part of the entertainment industry. The Super Bowl manages to draw an audience from all over the world for various reasons. And it depends where your priorities lie as to what aspect of the spectacle you like to watch and discuss. Even if you have zero interest in football, there is still entertainment to be had from the Super Bowl, or not. You could always watch a rerun of Cheers or whatever takes your fancy.

The Super Bowl is on a stage of its own, though, for having non-sports related aspects (half-time show and ads) being held in similar regard.

The Champions League final rarely has people discussing the the musical performances (before the game) or the half-time show (is there even one?). The Indy 500 has its traditions and the Race and little else is ever spoken about the greatest racing event in the world other than the race itself. Wrestlemania even has less pageantry than the Super Bowl.

Yes. I havent followed sports since I was 12, but a SB party is still fun. Watching with knowledgeable people is interesting, even if I don't care who wins.

It's one game per year that's become a chance to party, bet a few bucks in an office pool, and root against the Patriots, even for people who don't usually watch, don't understand, or even don't like football. So companies roll out their most creative ads for the massive TV audience, and pay $5.6 million for 30 seconds of airtime. And yes, the halftime show always gets as much (or more) debate as nearly everything that happens in the game.

It's like Thanksgiving: most people aren't giving thanks; they're gorging themselves ... and then watching football.

The Champions League finals usually have a lead in act. It was the Imagine Dragons in 2019. The Proclaimers in Glasgow 2002. A band I have seen many times. So they are getting there. Maybe soccer doesn't lend itself for an extended half time show.

It's smart marketing. Lot's of people who don't care about football still watch due to interest in the halftime show and ads. The ads cost serious $, so they spend lots on big stars and high production value. Also, those things get more discussion afterwards b/c they are more novel. The game itself usually turns out close to as expected.
The Champions League Final only draws about twice as many viewers worldwide as the SuperBowl. As say "only" b/c 95% of the worlds population live in countries were American football is not even played. So that shows how effective NFL marketing is. Every year the Superbowl gets twice the US viewers as any other show on TV (and the shows in the top 10 are almost all NFL playoff games, except for the annual Presidential address and the Oscars).

No problem with it. I usually don't watch the halftime show for the Super Bowl, but I did see some of this and didn't see anything to be offended by. I'm not really a fan of half-time shows in general.

I enjoyed the game, and was glad to see the Chiefs win one for Andy Reid, and the Hunt family. Lamar Hunt, founder of the KC Chiefs, and major figure in founding the AFL, is also the man who coined the name Super Bowl.

You can almost see the ankle of one of them. We need to stone these whores.

CHRISTIAN ACTIVIST TO SUE NFL OVER SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW, SAYS 'PORNOGRAPHY WAS PUMPED INTO THE HOMES OF GOD-FEARING PEOPLE'

"I think we ought to sue," he said. "Would that halftime show, would that have been rated PG? Were there any warnings that your 12-year-old son – whose hormones are just starting to operate – was there any warning that what he was going to see might cause him to get sexually excited?" He also asked: "Could I go into a courtroom and say, 'viewing what you put on that screen put me in danger of hellfire?"

Sounds like SNL's Church Lady. Mercy, the last thing the world wants is sexual excitement in a twelve year old.

If I remember back that far, all I needed was a stiff breeze to get me sexually excited.

I see it a bit differently. As you say, American football handegg is not even played in most of the world. So handegg fans from all over the world follow NFL and watch the Superbowl. On the other hand, while UEFA Champions League is the top club team competition, there are competitions like that in every confederation, since football is played all over the world. And in addition to each confederation's version of Champions League, there are a myriad of leagues and tournaments one can follow and watch. Not to mention national team competitions like the World Cup.

And that's just the Premier League. :)
So in light of all the football one can be watching all the time, Champions League getting this viewership is actually quite impressive. And that without even having people watching for the ads.

Oh it is incredibly effective. I am not denying that. It's just that comparison with CL does not really hold water.

Now, if the men had been scantily dressed and the camera kept giving viewers a close up of their thrusting groins, that might have caused an actual stir.

That heavily tattooed guy from the meme (he is in Maroon 5 I believe?) is very scantily dressed and nobody cares. It's a double standard. Like how islamofeminist mayor of London only banned the Protein World ads with female model in a bikini, and not the one with the bare-chested male model.
