So, The Super Bowl Halftime Show

I think it's good to see diversity represented. Shakira and J.Lo are 43 and 50 respectively. Not sure if they are vampires or whatever Duncan MacLeod was, but it's good they are getting out there and representing the mythological ageless being demographic.

I was astounded by J Lo's ability to swing around the pole and do cartwheels without breaking a hip. Whatever malevolent entity she sold her soul to for eternal youth is definitely holding up it's end of the bargain and I'd be interested in getting the contact information.

A sensible plan. Supports the developing dark magic economy. Plus the virtue signalling pc snowflakes get all bent out of shape when you go the Highlander route.

Since the thread has turned political, I've moved it.

Women dancing should really not generate political controversy....

However, what about the kids in cages singing 'Born in the USA' to the Puerto Rican Flag?? A bit on the nose eh?

aa

As far as entertainment quality, I am all for Shakira's hip thrusting and butt shaking (she does it better than J-Lo), and J-Lo's pole acrobatics were impressive for a 50 year old. However, that kind of group choreographed "dancing" (more like Jazzercise) is rather souless IMO. And while they both have some decent songs, the whole song "montage" thing doesn't do it for me. Also, I think there was a lot of lipsyncing. That said, it was far superior than the drek from Maroon 5 last year, mostly b/c they suck ass. Generally I prefer when actual live music were the songs is the focus, like Prince which was arguably the best ever.

I agree, Shakira cut J-Lo. J-Lo is more voluptuous...Shakira appeared quite slender next to her.

It wasnt impressive at all. I have seen ladyboy shows better than this. And as for the flesh and sexualization, how is this fundamentally any different than cheerleaders?

Very few bands/artists can do that. I would say U2 was the best ever, followed by The Rolling Stones. The Who was a damp squib.

Silly boy, that's celebrity ass!

FWIW seemed to me the camera work was a bit sloppy.

All of the white women I know liked the show.

I'm something of a minority in not caring for Adam Levine (if that's who that was...)

I'm not much of a football fan for a lot of reasons. Usually go to a Superbowl party to catch up with people I don't see often, watch the commercials and the half time show. This year I didn't make it but I can't see how this would provoke any genuine outrage. J Lo and Shakira are both grown women who have well established careers and admirable dance moves. No one is exploiting them nor are the exploiting themselves. Speaking as a woman >50, it's great to see beautiful strong performances by beautiful, strong, talented women who are not under 30 stick insects.

What did you think?

The music wasn't my cup of tea but the dance performance were spectacular. They were damn tight.

I know a lot of right-wingers weren't happy.
If you don't have any talent then it is more important to show off some skin.

Yes the music sucked. But it was still very much a pleasure watching near naked girls doing their show. And that is coming from a Trump voter.

50 year old women are not 50 year old men. You should go see Hustlers. JLo and Shakira really know how to put on a spectacular performance. Given the venue, and the dancing, it is a bit much to expect live voices throughout.

We all know that Trump voters appreciate women in revealing costumes dancing for their pleasure, almost as much as they like referring to 40 and 50 something year old women as girls and denigrating their musical talent. We all know that it's all about tits and ass for Trumpites.

We know you prefer ladyboys and yes, this was vastly different than the cheerleaders.

For one thing, J Lo and Shakira were celebrating and cheering themselves.

Oh get over yourself already lol

My point was that this was the Superbowl and they got people up there with minimal talent, and no more sexualized that cheerleaders with pompoms.

I think what little disapproval exists is more a reaction to the close-up crotch shots than the costumes or dancing. But even that would have barely register on social media if Monday wasn't such a slow news day.

Now, if the men had been scantily dressed and the camera kept giving viewers a close up of their thrusting groins, that might have caused an actual stir.
