A sampling of the comments within 45 minutes of SportsCenter’s announcement that Sarah Fuller will be Vanderbilt’s place kicker this weekend.
“Tomorrow I will be wearing ‘Play Like a Girl’ on the back of my helmet. @iplaylikeagirl is nonprofit that encourages girls to play sports and get exposure to STEM opportunities.” - Sarah

Assholes on the Internet... not shocked. Probably assholes in the real world too.

Vanderbilt trying to get some publicity, but she is on a Div I Soccer team, so the haters should just shut the fuck up, as she is clearly more athletically talented than 99.9% of them.

Its not really a BFD anymore for a woman to play on a men's sports team, is it? Any guy currently on the team can tell the world he decided to change from a man to a woman last Tuesday, and then become the first woman in sports history to do blah...blah...blah. It's all become very boring now.

Sarah Fuller is not an Ex-Man. She's a real she. And it's just a publicity stunt. She kicked it to the 35 yard line. How many male Vandy undergraduates could kick deeper than the 35 yard line? 1,000? 10,000? It'd be more impressive if a team pulled out the female kicker at the national championship game, 1:05 on the clock, score 21-21.

it's called a squib kick - intentionally short and low so the ball bounces around and the other team's slower front-line players have to fight over it instead of their back line sprinters.
it's a not uncommon technique used at that stage of the game by a team losing by that much.

could certainly be argued that it showed a total lack of faith in her ability to "kick it for real", but it was not her best effort that was just miserable and pathetic.
and yes, it has been confirmed by the team that it was a squib kick and not just her sucking.

Can she kick it into the end zone from her own 35 yard line? Can she get height on her kicks quickly so that the defensive linemen don't block her kicks. Can she do those things consistently. If not she shouldn't be there. How far is she good from on field goals? Can she match most SEC kickers, if not she shouldn't be there. If she can match most kickers in a weaker conference, but not the SEC, then that other conference is a more reasonable place for her to be.

She is a part-time player on the Vanderbilt football team... a school that has had a winning record in four seasons since 1976. Vanderbilt has had 2 or fewer wins in 18 of those same seasons.

She is the goalkeeper for Vanderbilt's SEC champion team, hence kicking it a distance is a thing she is used to doing. The football team was down on players due to Covid. It was a temporary stop gap... slash a bit of publicity... and a bunch of Internet Trolls felt it necessary to be trolls. Seriously, people were making with misogynist comments about a woman playing the holy roll of a kicker in a college football game.

The comments were based solely on her having a vagina. It had nothing to do with anything she said or did.

It is just publicity. Like how anyone can the throw the first pitch. That she only had one inconsequential play the entire game shows the real confidence in her.

I haven't seen Trausti's latest whinge yet, since nobody has posted to quote it yet. If I were to bet a dollar that it contained nothing but "WAHH, those Vanderbilt sexual dimorphism deniers are letting a girl play, they are going to do nothing but lose because girls can't kick like boys" despite this girl being fully capable of kicking Trausti clear through the fork and Trausti not being cable of getting a point over a goalpost, even one they feel emboldened to move as often as necessary, I suspect I would be at least a dollar richer.

I recognize that it's just a publicity stunt. Do you?

It's kinda cool she got her little moment in the sun and her parents and family can share the experience but she seems to have been caught up in the hype.

It certainly got the attention of a lot of insecure manchildren.

One aspect of high impact sports is that we are not subjected to watching these players in middle age having to get joint replacement surgeries, doped out of their minds on pain medications and so on.

On the other side of this, pandering like this in a 0-41 loss is pathetic.

So maybe if this crap destroys high impact sports then a lot of guys won't be in massive pain later in life.

Basically, I am the opposite of Jimmy Higgins who seems to love these guys getting demolished but likes the pandering.
