Things seem to be going poorly. Parliament voted to undo it. The military appears to be licking their lips (?). I'm not the most literate person when it comes to Asian politics, but while I am aware of the Japanese elections hurting the incumbent and Myanmar oddly enough seeing the Rohingya teaming up with the Myanmar military... I had no idea something like this was brewing in South Korea.

The president said he would impose martial law to stop “shameless pro-North anti-state forces that plunder the freedom and happiness of our people.”

A military decree signed Tuesday suspended all political activities, as well as “fake news, manipulation of public opinion and false propaganda.” It said it would place news media “under martial law control” and ordered striking medical workers to return to work within 48 hours.

The decree was signed by army Gen. Park An-su, who was designated by Yoon as “martial law commander.”

Place news media "under martial law control". Orders like that usually don't end well.

And South Korean leader pulls back and says he'll lift Martial Law.

Yoon spoke about 4:25 a.m. local time, less than six hours after ordering the martial law, and said he would formally lift the decree following a cabinet meeting that is expected to take place within hours.

He said he would accept the National Assembly’s vote, and added that he was unable to convene his cabinet because it is too early in the morning. The martial law will be lifted as soon as the cabinet gathers, he said.

Why does he need to meet with his Cabinet... other than to either free them of their life or to resign?

This dude is so unpopular he looks at Biden's approval ratings with envy. So is this the end of the line for him?

Sounds unlikely. But there’s over 2 years left in the term so who knows.

He is an idiot that was convinced by a military hard liner to do something stupid. The guy has approval ratings that make Biden's look like Taylor Swift's. The President has little political experience and kind of stumbled into the position. And his performance has been as would be expected for a person out of his league.
