Stacey Abrams wins Dem Gubernatorial Primary

I was expecting a banjo or at least some non-consensual sodomy. And as to the ad, double barreled shotguns are nice, but they are not deportation buses.
Also, Brian Kemp only came in 2nd. He is in the runoff though.

What concerns me a bit is that she wants to water down HOPE scholarship by expanding eligibility to some C-students. HOPE has had difficulties staying afloat as it is.

[*]For living wage and right to form unions.
How does she define "living wage"?
He doesn't have a deportation bus, but he does have a big truck...

According to CNN a whole bunch of men won their nominations. I know little about them. I hope it is because they are the best choices and not just because they have penises.
But remember, Jolly Penguin is a "liberal".

Here is Stacey Abrams on the issues:

I am not going to list all the quote links here as there are so many. Please click link to review.

Overall, progressive and reasonable.

I wasn't able to vote Tuesday, but I would have voted for Abrams if I had. I donated to her campaign, one of only three donations that I made this cycle.

Abrams is who we all should want as governor. She is smart, articulate and right on the issues but willing to take one half of the cake when it is the best that she can get, without insisting on all or nothing as so many do. She doesn't dwell on her being the first women to run as Clinton did in 2016 nor does she empathize her race, she isn't the first black to run as a nominee of the Democrats. That being said, her hope of winning depends on registrating to vote a sizable part of the one million blacks and women in the state who are currently not registered to vote and getting them to the polls.

It was incredible to watch the advertising for the two parties leading up the primary election. On the Republican side it was all about echoing the Trumpian/Fox News/Rush Limbaugh/Southern strategy false narratives about illegal aliens, crime running rampant and the need for immediate tax relief for corporations and the rich. On the Democratic side the advertising was about the need to invest in education and infrastructure, fair housing, fair pay, and the need to expand Medicaid and to move toward universal health care.

(As in the rest of the country political ads are centered in the TV time slots around the local news. It is a little disconcerting to me that we select the leaders of our government in the same way that we apparently decide which presciption drugs we take and which personal injury attorney we hire when we have been injured in an automobile accident that was not our fault. Can anyone here defend the advisability of letting drug companies and lawyers advertise? The madness of deregulation gone bad.)

JP, news coverage of Stacey Abrams policies today has been very light--a lot of focus on her identity. I don't think that people voted on her identity, but I thought that it might be okay to "go against the grain" of regular media coverage in this space, talk free thought, to discuss her policies. It was rather deliberate on my part. Since politics intersects with race and gender issues, and in particular conservative Georgia has such a history effecting even modern day politics, it may not be possible to separate the two in a discussion. I did put forth an honest effort, though possibly naive.

It's very much about identity politics. This article probably takes the cake though.
Stacey Abrams’ Campaign Was the Hogwarts School for Black Girl Magic

My husband and I voted for her on the second day of early voting. She is a very dynamic candidate and of course we're going to talk about her race because she is the very first AA female candidate to win a primary for governor in any state. Yay Georgia! The odds are against her winning. First of all, there were more than 500,000 Republicans that voted in the primaries than Democrats.
I think you have 1 too many 0's.

Yeah and also, in 2014 it was a 290K difference.

It is still a long shot, but the numbers do exist in Georgia to make it possible. Pretty much every person that could vote for her must turnout.

According to CNN a whole bunch of women won their nominations. I know little about them. I hope it is because they are the best choices and not just because they have vaginas.
*sigh*

ETA: In general, the establishment selections for candidates won out last night. Abrams was backed by Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Jesus Christ, and FDR.

After seeing Hillary's campaign, I would not put it past her types in the Democratic party to use feminism to sweep in a bunch of establishment candidates, pointing at them being female while doing so as a smoke screen. As I said, I don't know these candidates so hope that isn't the case here.

With all this hope maybe you could bother to follow up with a little research or just shut up.

Why should I bother? It's not my country. And you and another decided to respond and attack me when you could have ignored me, yet you are upset I responded and tell me to shut up. Methinks you have issues.

You should expect it when you post from a position of ignorance.

I hope you don’t beat your wife. I mean there is no evidence you do (or are even married), but I just hope its true.

Why? I explicitly stated I hope something and do not know if it is true. This is taboo for you? Somebody could have simply informed me rather than attacking.

Unlike you not knowing if I have a history beating women, I do know the Democratic party has a history of pushing establishment candidates and claiming to be progressive by citing that they are women.

You didn't seem interested when you said "why should I bother?" Apparently interesting enough for you to provide a little snark but not enough to do your own research.
