PM Modi's party, BJP, gets a land-slide victory in one of the large states of India, West Bengal, a state where the opposition party TMC was entrenched for 15 years.
Total seats 293, BJP 205, TMC 85.

Did the landslide in West Bengal occur because the incumbents were on the nose or hopeless? Or was it due to electoral changes within West Bengal or imposed from without?

India has free and fair democratic elections, nothing can be imposed from outside. The West Bengal was ruled by a political mafia with corruption and violence. It depended on votes from Indian Muslims and illegal Muslim migrants from Bangladesh. Hindus of West Bengal realized that progress is more important than pseudo-Bengali chauvinism on which the previous government was thriving. The former Chief Minister, Mamta Bannerjee, could not win even in her own bastion. The Chief Minister of BJP West Bengal government will still be a Bengali (BJP, Bharatiya Janata Party, translates to Indian Peoples Party). Number of eligible voters 70 million, 94% of the voters exercised their right to vote, highest percentage ever in any election in India. That is why the land-slide win.
